“A great place to stay”

A very enjoyable stay. We had a room with a fireplace, balcony and a fabulous view. Very comfortable room. The sunset views against the mountain backdrop - fabulous. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant and lounge was good. We were visiting the area to hike the Northern Cascades National Park. The drive from the lodge to the park took between 30 & 45 minutes but was a pleasant drive with little traffic. Based on our experience, we highly recommend Sun Mountain Lodge when visiting this area.

Sun Mountain Is going through some restructuring as the result of new ownership and management. After talking with them, I now have full faith that they will turn this lodge around. Looking forward to a new updated version of their vision. *** 03/09/2026 Lodge was wonderful with great views, decor, a well appointed room (although at $550 a night, all in, the lodge should be able to afford 2 ply TP). Grandkids loved the onsite balloon pop-up. Staff was friendly and polite for the most part, but I believe a bit more training is necessary in order to provide the service an upscale lodge should provide. It was apparent they are understaffed throughout. I do want to give a shoutout to Tina, the dining supervisor who was engaging and friendly to the grandkids each time we came down for breakfast. Also I want to thank Rebecca for helping us retrieve my granddaughter’s lost ski jacket. Communication is an issue. We were located in the Mt. Robinson Building which is the furthest building from the main lodge. We depended on phone communications for requests and info. Calls to the front desk are forwarded to the dining room and the phone is never answered. I had to walk to the main lodge each time in order to get the simplest of answers or requests addressed. Might consider giving the front desk a cell phone for when they are away from the front desk. The dining experience needs to be addressed. The bar was never open when we came down. The dining options didn’t fit our needs. We were there as grandparents with a 13 year old and a 5 year. Adding interesting small plates and sandwiches to the dinner menu and maybe providing a snack bar would help. Avoid the Kids menu smash burger which we was our only option one night to eat in our room. The regular smash burger was great but it wasn’t offered one night. I did take a minute to sit with the Food and Beverage Director. He understood the issue. Later, I talked with dining staff who confirmed he had passed along my concerns. There needs to be a posting of which activities are available and which are not. We had a pool and hot tub next to our building but they were closed for the winter. We would have used the open hot tub at the main lodge, but there were no changing rooms. It turns out the ice rink they advertise is not on site, but in the town of Winthrop 18 minutes away. With the snow being a bit low it would have been nice to have some other organized activities for the kids. I really want to love this place. It has such potential. My exact same concerns have been voiced in a number of reviews and ownership has replied saying they would address the issues, but here we are with the same issues still a problem.
