The White Lace Inn is a lovely facility in downtown Sturgeon Bay. You are three blocks from the main downtown shopping and restaurant street, so a convenient location. As you can tell from the pictures, this is a charming 19th century-themed inn. I heard they have 18 rooms spread over four different buildings. We were in the Garden Inn which dated from 1880. Our room was nicely decorated with antiques and other touches with some of the furniture dating from the 19th century. Everything was clean. The neighborhood is quiet, and we were far enough from the street to not hear any traffic. I did not hear any neighbors in our building. The bathroom was adequate, though the shower will be tight for people over a BMI of around 28. The shower is approximately 24-inches square, smaller than most people likely have at home. The breakfast was very tasty and fancy though somewhat scant for our liking. We had a quiche the first day and stuffed French toast the second. There is also a sausage link and fruit along with juice and a hot drink. Overall, a very good experience. If staying in the main house is important to you, you should contact the White Lace Inn to see what rooms are in that building. Otherwise, you are likely to be in an out-building. We would stay here again.

“First time there and will return.”

Experience couldn’t have been better. Nice rooms, for a bed and breakfast, delicious breakfast in main house, and hosts amazing. Very quaint and comfy place. Free parking. Coffee always available in house lobby. Close to town and could even walk to several spots, including church.

Well-appointed rooms in a garden setting. We stayed in the Garden House, one of several old homes that make up this inn. The main house (where breakfast is served) has a whole library of information about the area, complete with restaurant menus. A wonderful base for exploring Door County.

As with any place of lodging, there are things that can be helped and there are things that can't. When you stay at a hotel, B&B, etc., you expect three basic things; cleanliness, comfort and safety. The area where this B&B is located is very safe. We had no problem walking around at night. We rented the Steeple View Cottage (does not come with breakfast) which is a small, quaint, two bedroom house built in the late 1930's. That said, the water pressure was excellent and the furnace kept us toasty. It was a bit musty but, for a house over 80 years old, it wasn't bad. The place was spotlessly clean so kudos to the housekeeping staff. The mattresses were wonderful, we had plenty of blankets and the towels were some of the fluffiest I've ever experienced. Even better, the owner uses no scented laundry treatments so zero problems with allergies. There were a few problems, some that could be helped and some that I'm not so sure about. First, I was told that sheet/pillow case changes did not come with the nearly $2,000/week rental. The sheets were fresh when we got there of course, but they would not be changed while we were there. While unexpected, it wasn't a big deal. Then, when I asked when we would receive fresh towels, it was suggested that I wash the B&Bs towels myself in the basement laundry in the house. When it was quickly determined that h*ll would freeze over before I did laundry on vacation, we were told that fresh towels could be delivered whenever we needed them (which they did and we were thankful). However, one set of fresh towels was delivered to the bathroom floor instead of the linen closet. The day will never come where I wipe my face on a towel taken off a public lodging bathroom floor. Second, the toilet seat was broken in the main bathroom. While that happens, it took several days and more than one request to get that replaced. Third, the showerhead in the only shower was so old and leaky the water quantity was insufficient to rinse the soap off. Once again, that happens. That took 1 1/2 days to get that repaired and worked wonderfully afterwards. The last problem came on a stormy night though I can't determine if this is a problem that was known or not known. Around 5 AM I heard dripping which I assumed was rain outside. A few minutes later, I realized it the ceiling was dripping in the bedroom. What followed was a mad scramble to protect the owner's furniture as well as my own suitcase full of clothes. After shoving around the furniture, raiding the kitchen for bowls and trashcans to catch the multiple drips and laying down towels to soak up the water on the floor, I finally laid back down. Yet, I couldn't fall back asleep imagining I could hear new leaks everywhere. When I reported it the next day to the owner, along with a second request to fix the toilet seat, no apology was given nor a thank you for saving their furniture. Only an out loud musing about a 'plumbing vent' problem. Luckily it did not rain again for the rest of the week or we'd have gotten no sleep. In the end, now that the showerhead has been fixed, the toilet seat no longer randomly shifts and dumps the user onto the floor and (I can only assume) the roof has been fixed, it's probably a lovely place to stay. The area around the B&B is full of nice coffee shops, galleries and restaurants while also not being overly touristy. Most are within walking distance from the B&B/cottage. I'd recommend staying there, just confirm the roof repair has been made before you book.
