White Sands Hotel, Da Nang — A Personal, Heartfelt Stay Stayed: July 10–24 |   Coming from: A nearby 5-star hotel I'm traveling through Southeast Asia and I review the hotels I stay at so other travelers know what to expect.  I receive no pay ir special benefits from any hotel I stay at.  Hence, my review can be trusted.   After two weeks at the White Sands Hotel in Da Nang, I can say without hesitation: this stay outshined even 5-star properties I'd stayed at — not in luxury, but in something more valuable: genuine friendliness & hospitality.   First Impressions The hotel isn't directly on the beach — it's about a two-block walk to the Sands of Da Nang Beach — but that was the only downside I found, that I had to walk through vibrant Vietnam streets and past various seafood restaurants & shops.    From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the warmth of the staff.  For instance, an older gentleman who tends the hotel's flowers and plants every day greeted me with a smile and helped with my bags before I'd even reached the front desk. The reception team was just as kind, getting me settled quickly and without any fuss (special mention goes to Eddie & Ellie, who go above and beyond in their hospitality [I call them my new friends]).   The Room My room had an ocean view, and watching the sunrise from it each morning was spectacular. It was clean and comfortable, and I mean genuinely comfortable — the bed made a real difference to how well I slept every night.   Breakfast Breakfast was a daily highlight. It wasn't as extravagant as the 5-star spreads I've experienced before, but it didn't need to be — the selections were fresh, healthy, and varied, with a nice rotation of fruit, hot dishes, and good coffee every morning. The best part: instead of the typical buffet-and-serve-yourself setup, the kitchen staff actually cooked eggs to order and brought the food to the table afterward. It felt personal in a way the "help yourself" buffet at the pricier hotel never did.  (Special mention to Tin, the head Chef and whom I now call my friend [for he prepared a special yogurt for me that I will never forget], additionally though, I must mention the excellent staff: Trang, Nu, Danh, Bryan, Sun & Sunny [for their personal attentiveness to each guests needs, they deserve raises in my opinion]).   Housekeeping The cleaning staff deserve real recognition. They came through every single day, and they were fast — I watched them work and they didn't miss a detail: fresh sheets daily (unless I asked them not to), floors done, every corner attended to, all with a smile the entire time.  I was amazed (unfortunately I did not get their names).   The Drivers — (Heip [Who also goes by Peter], and Tom [These two are my dear friends now too!) They Absolute Standout! If there's one reason to book this hotel, it's the driver team. They'll take you anywhere and help you skip the cost and hassle of ride-hailing apps. One driver (Heip), took me to Ba Na Hills to see the Golden Bridge, first he convinced me that I wouldn’t be sorry if I went, then he helped me find much cheaper tickets than I would have gotten on my own, he took me there to buy the discounted ticket and he gave me clear instructions on how to reach him when I was ready to be picked up. Here's where it got remarkable: at the top of the mountain, my Vietnamese SIM data ran out and I lost signal. I used the hotel's free Wi-Fi there to reach out, and instead of waiting for my original driver, he sent Tom, a different driver from the same team who showed up immediately — they work as a coordinated team group. Even more surprising, Tom took my phone from my hand, he took out his own phone, he was pressing buttons and maneuvering back & fourth between phones, and like nothing, he had paid for my phone service to be restored himself, on the spot, trusting me to pay him back later. He helped first and sorted out repayment after. I've never experienced that level of care from hotel staff anywhere.  The whole time he was smiling.   Amenities & Location The hotel has a modest pool that's perfect for cooling off, plus a small gym for a quick workout. The location is excellent — surrounded by seafood restaurants, convenience stores, and even a local candy shop just up the block for authentic Vietnamese sweets. Laundry service is easy too; I used a place right around the corner that even gave me a ride back afterward.  The hotel itself will also provide laundry services for an additional cost, as opposed to taking your own clothes around the corner.   Final Verdict The White Sands Hotel surprised me at every turn — the Plant & flower-tending greeter, the kitchen team, the tireless housekeeping, and especially the driver team who went so far beyond what any hotel owes a guest. It was also significantly more affordable than the 5-star hotels I stayed at before. I would come back to the White Sands Hotel without a second thought, and I'd recommend it to any traveler who values genuine hospitality over polish for a lessor price.  This hotel is the true Da Nang, Vietnam experience.

“Awesome time!”

The only thing was the bed very loud and springy. Everyone was very accommodating! Especially sunny and Ellie, they are super friendly!
