I always stayed district one but this time have the family with me. Because of the ‘12 and under free’ policy, we picked La Regatta over another hotel we initially shortlisted. We stayed in a Deluxe room; all the decor in the room and lobby looked exactly the same like photos.we really like the modern clean lines and design, refreshing from saigon’s standard hotels. The price point was right, so it wasn’t hard to choose this over the older hotels. We booked on Agoda and paid $80 usd for 2 nights, including taxes and breakfasts. We had 2 adults and 2 kids under 12. The floors are so clean - the housekeeping boy would remove his shoes before stepping in so we followed suit, like in someone’s house. The kitchenette has the basic utensils and cookware - pots, pan, cutlery for 2. The room comes with 2 free bottles of water but not the ones inside the fridge. If I were alone, I’d stay at Pham Ngu Lao for the convenience and access to all the tourist stuff. From La Regatta, we were able to walk to the war remnants Musuem but I wouldn’t do that again. We cabbed to Pham ngu lao to buy a tour trip to cuchi tunnel as it’s a fraction from what the agencies quoted in the flyers we found at the hotel. It’s in a quiet district. The staff were wonderful. Hong, the receptionist was so helpful, even printed a Vietnamese cheat sheet for me to revise my rusty Vietnamese. Ly was a really sweet young lady who loved her job and was very sharp to respond to all my inquiries. The security guard was a charming older gentleman who showed some magic card tricks to my kids. He was always polite and friendly and ready to help us get into the taxis. The guy who checked out out, Nam, spoke excellent English and was kind in helping us get our cab to the airport. My favorite staff in the hotel is Loi, the housekeeping boy. He was very attentive, serviced with a huge smile on his face and even fixed my hand carrier that had a small tear. He and another housekeeping boy made us feel welcomed and settled in even when we checked in at 2 in the morning. We recommend this hotel to those who enjoy a quieter area away from the hustling bustling district 1. The only thing we would do different next time we book is to reserve without breakfast as it’s much cheaper to just walk outside the hotel (literally 10 steps away) to purchase our noodle soup. The breakfasts provided by the hotel come from the same stalls, except they are dressed in nicer bowls and presented in nice table setting and you get to enjoy in the hotel lobby.
