We were a bit worried when reading some of the reviews, and it got worse when we got there and they couldn't find our reservation :( Well, it turns out there are 2 King Star Hotels :) Anyway, we booked the VIP rooms, and they are apparently all at the 'thai van lung' street hotel. So we walk a few minutes down the road to the new hotel. There are 10 floors, and 3 rooms on each floor. the rooms are spacious and clean. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast was probably a little ordinary, but it did the job, and if they ran out of something, they would make it up for you straight away. There's an Irish pub across the road, and an Aussie pub around the corner. It's in a very good location. I would be happy to stay here again !

“Ok place”

Good location, short walk from many of the main sites in HCMC including all the "District 1" highlights. Numerous places to eat close by. Bathroom was a bit dirty, random pair of shoes left in room making us wonder how thorough it was cleaned. Receptionists English was "ok", but had some difficulty… more

Good location, short walk from many of the main sites in HCMC including all the "District 1" highlights. Numerous places to eat close by. Bathroom was a bit dirty, random pair of shoes left in room making us wonder how thorough it was cleaned. Receptionists English was "ok", but had some difficulty when trying to book visits. No big deal were able to do it in town instead

“A Challenge!”

When we booked this hotel, we had no idea that there were two locations (they are close to each other) - we found this out when the hotel taxi took us to the wrong one and we were waved on to the other! When we booked this hotel, we had no idea that there were two locations (they are close to each other) - we found this out when the hotel taxi took us to the wrong one and we were waved on to the other! We had asked for a deluxe twin room; the room had two beds - one queen sized, the other a foldaway bed that which had boards to lie on with a 2" foam on top. The room had a small a/c unit which struggled to bring any reduction in temperature - didn't matter which setting was used. The temperature when we were there was 96F+ with high humidity so it was a rough few days. The bathroom had a huge bath but the bathroom had no a/c so was sucking any cool air from the room; we tried shutting the door but the bathroom became claustrophobic with heat. The shower leaked from under the door and while I mopped it up the first night as the floor was very slippery. I gave up after that as I realized that the water was running into a drain near the edge of the bath - maybe it was meant to do that?? The room looked out onto an alley rather than the front street and it was quiet at night; it was supposed to have been recently renovated (the base boards were coming loose from the wall at floor level) so perhaps it was still to be completed? Breakfast was OK, but there was no fresh milk for tea/coffee; when I asked for some, condensed milk in a tin was produced. I suspect now that fresh milk is not a regular request nor is it used by locals. The front desk staff did give us good recommendations for restaurants and a massage. I would not be rushing back.
