I have to say, previous stays in Mainz, have included, The Hilton pricey, but you get the usual “brand” with friendly welcome and great service & more recently Ibis, basic but clean, friendly and surprisingly comfortable bed, even though the room was small. I arrived at Mainzer Hof, with mixed feelings of hope & anxiety having read the reviews on here. All I can say is this hotel must have taken notice and has had a radical “uplift”, the room is huge with a sofa, table and chair as well as writing desk and flatscreen TV. Quality laminate flooring, very acceptable contemporary wardrobe and furniture. Very firm and comfortable bed. The bathroom is also an incredibly large room, a separate bath with shower head and then a second walk in shower, all spotlessly clean and again modern fresh new tiling, fixtures, fittings and flooring. I cannot find a single fault, on my first night here and will definitely be making this my regular business hotel stay in the future, as I’m here on a weekly basis. Much cheaper than the Hilton, obviously, however it is still cheaper than the Ibis, which is remarkable. Just 2 small points, there is no hotel car park, though there is a public one a stones throw away, I’m sure cheaper than €20/ night at other hotels. Secondly the Internet is chargeable in the room, however €8 for a 5 night stay again is very good value. Well done Mainzer Hof Hotel, definitely more than 3 stars...... will try the breakfast with excited anticipation tomorrow morning.

“Location is good, but just an average hotel”

Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Everything in the hotel was quite basic. There was no AC, so it made a bit difficult in a hot summer day. Insulation was not good. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Everything in the hotel was quite basic. There was no AC, so it made a bit difficult in a hot summer day. Insulation was not good. We had a city view room, and could hear car noise all night. Staffs were friendly and helpful. It was within walking distance to major sites and restaurants.

This is not the worst nor the best 3-star hotel, I have stayed in. Having said that, the rooms are well laid out with a comfortable bed and very little street noise. The reception and bar staff are friendly and the drinks-prices were not too bad. It is also close (next to) the Rhine river and about a 10 minute walk from the Cathedral and old town. In addition, around 15 minutes walk to the Central station. A reasonable hotel in a good location.
