This is a small hotel across the road from the main train station in Mainz, but this benefit is also its Achilles Heel as you can hear the noise from those travelling to, and from, the station as well as other residents who have come for a 'party' weekend. My friends and I from the UK had booked several rooms through one of our local friends and check-in was a breeze. My local friend had passed our details, so all we had to do was pick up our keys and get to our rooms. There is a lift, or you can just use the stairs and the rooms are located just off of the main corridor on each floor, all of which were spotlessly clean and well lit. The double room I was staying in had 2 single beds and 2 bedside tables with lighting switches on both sides of the beds, for a wall lamp and the room itself. There's a TV with local channels and 1 English speaking channel (BBC World Service News). It also had a small table and chair and a desk and chair in the other corner. The room was front facing and had 2 'balcony' windows - the balcony was merely decorative and not big enough to step out onto, really, but in hot summer months, you can open the window fully and not be afraid of falling out! The en-suite is located behind the door to the room and was very small. Half of it was taken up by the walk-in shower which mean the toilet and sink were squashed together, with little room to walk around - certainly with only enough room for 1 person to be in (unless you have someone in the shower!). You only get 1 pillow and the bed wasn't too bad, but the decor is certainly from another decade! Those who like the retro look will take to it, as it is like something out a magazine from the 70's or early 80's! My room, on the 2nd floor, was warm enough (I had to turn down the heating at one stage), but the thin door meant I could hear other residents coming back to their rooms on the same floor, although the walls managed to keep a lot of the noise out, once they got inside their rooms. Breakfast is at their restaurant on the ground floor and serves the traditional continental breakfast of a cold meats platter, various breads and rolls, as well as yoghurts, cereals, fruit and fruit juices. A machine provides you with different styles of coffee and hot water for a selection of tea bags - note: they DO NOT have English Breakfast tea bags, so if you want a 'normal' cuppa, you'll have to bring your own. The main thing, though is the water bath for boiled eggs. It's similar to a deep fat fryer but has water instead of oil and a number of metal egg holders which hook onto the side with the egg dunked into the hot water, which is kept at a constant temperature. Once you've put your egg into the water, you pick up one of the egg timers nearby which are the 'sand in an hour glass' type but are for 7 minutes, which is the optimum time for a soft boiled egg. You can, of course, leave it longer or take your egg out earlier, but I found 7 minutes to be perfect for a runny yolk, ready for me to dip my toasted soldiers in! When you take out the egg, there's a small bowl of cold water, so you can put your egg in there which stops the cooking but also means, you don't burn your hands getting your egg. The staff were all very friendly and able to speak English reasonably well (better than my German!) and more than happy to help whenever they could. The wi-fi was fine but it did warn that too many users would slow it down but I only used it for messaging and a short internet search and I didn't experience any probs. All in all, not the greatest of hotels but more than adequate for us who just wanted somewhere to sleep, that was convenient for the train station, and bus service outside.

We stayed for two nights and it offered a clean, comfortable room, adequate for recovery from a long trip abroad before continuing our final journey home. It is also an easy walk to Mainz old town. This is a nice hotel Within a very short walk from the train station. We stayed for two nights and it offered a clean, comfortable room, adequate for recovery from a long trip abroad before continuing our final journey home. It is also an easy walk to Mainz old town. The staff was kind and considerate when we arrived at the hotel prior to the normal check in time, by allowing us to get to our room early. The only drawback is that there were no quiet sitting areas for reading & relaxing. There is a cafe next to the reception area, but we did not eat there. Otherwise, I would recommend this hotel for a short stay and with easy reach of the train system.

“Ok for one night”

I had a one-night stay on a cool day in June. The room size is decent and facilities are basic. The location is good and staff is friendly. The price was pretty high comparing to a hotel cross the street, and the breakfast was not included in the room. The desk in my room was dusty.
