I've stayed at Porto Azzuro several times over the last 10 years. It's in a great location overlooking St Pauls bay, very close to a bus stop and great walking from right out the back door. It's a very reasonably priced hotel with clean comfortable rooms and well equipped cooking facilities. The staff are really friendly and helpful, especially Joanna and Xandre both of whom helped me with bookings. Great couple of cafes nearby and a convenience shop and veg van just a 3minute walk away.

This a lovely, clean, quiet hotel, with very friendly and helpful staff. I stayed for a fortnight on a self-catering basis, so can't comment on food and I didn't use the pool. The décor and fixtures are in need of some updating (not important to me) but the room/kitchenette was comfortable and everything worked as it should. I was lucky enough to have a top floor room with kitchenette and amazing large balcony/terrace (Room 606) overlooking the countryside (and not overlooked by any other building). It was north-facing, so a little chilly sometimes (it is winter). Just make sure when you are booking that you know exactly what room/facilities you are getting, as they are all very different. Some are room only, some have a kitchenette and some have balconies and some don't. Excellent value for money - would happily stay again.

We booked to stay at this hotel at the start of April. Our first impressions weren’t good, we arrived at the reception and there was staff basically arguing at the reception desk. But after that, the staff were generally ok. The room security systems are largely dated, they’re manual lock and key which you have to leave and collect from the hotel every time you come back. In our room we had a fan in the ceiling which was wobbling like it was going to come off the ceiling, but generally the room was dated, bathroom was good. The breakfast at this hotel is not great, we just had toast and tea every morning, that’s how bad it is, they even served burnt croissants which is shocking. All in all, it’s an ok base but I would recommend just staying with a self catering option. There are definitely better hotels which are more central in St Paul’s bay which would only cost slightly more. There isn’t many shops locally in this area. I would say the hotel is in a peaceful area with a bus stop not far away which you can use to get around the island.
