We returned this week from a 10 night stay at our favourite home away from home with more great memories. We visited the Alltra last in November, 2023. We were pleased to see the improvements to the beach. There's more sand although a detour through the water is still required to get from the main pool to the North Beach area without going through the hotel. There seems to be a larger breakwater which should help reduce erosion during storms. The sargassum was well-controlled and we were able to enjoy the view of the iconic turquoise waters from our oceanfront suite. Things were otherwise largely unchanged around the property which is fine by us as we are already planning our fall trip back to the Alltra. Special thanks to our lovely maid, Celina, waiter Abraham, bartenders Sebastien and Jesus and the world's best omelet maker, Mariano. We are told that doorman Aaron has been an employee at the hotel for 16 years. His smiling face and big hugs are the first things we experience when we step off the shuttle and last we experience when we leave. He's always the same and seemingly always there. He is a superb human being and reflects the spirit of the outstanding people who make this hotel, regardless of its name over the years, our favourite place to stay ever.

“Great first tip to Mexico!”

This was our first time going to Mexico! Well worth it. I feel relaxed and rejuvenated. I'm just going to list the pros and cons and add a couple of footnotes for clarity! The Good: - The staff was wonderful. Special shoutout to Aaron in the lobby - he was such a joy! - Our room was clean. It was just a basic room, nothing special but we didn't spend much time in it and felt no need to upgrade. - Amazing location. Near the main shopping area so we were able to immerse ourselves in the culture more. - Great pool. Drinks were fine and tasty, perfect for sipping in the hot weather - While there was a bit of sargassum, which is not the fault/responsibility of the hotel whatsoever, it was kept as tidy as was possible. - I'm not a fussy eater and loved the variety of food. The bread in the Italian restaurant is exceptionally good. - Mini fridge always stocked with bottles of water and soda. Access to clean water was never an issue. The less good: - Bring a face cloth. The resort didn't have any, so I used a hand towel in the shower - The bar does open quite late and the pool bar does close quite early - We didn't make a reservation at the Mexican restaurant, so showed up at 5:30 right when it opened. The host had a bit of an attitude about it - but there were only 2 other occupied tables the whole time we were sat, so I felt it was a bit unnecessary. Extra notes: - I highly recommend you bring water shoes. Again, not the fault of the resort, but there are quite a few rocks in the beach area until you get a bit farther from the shore. - Bring earplugs - being that this is an adults only resort, people tend to party a bit late and can get loud. I was prepared for this. Again, it's an adult only resort. People deserve to let loose on vacation.

“Overbooked rooms”

I went for my father's 75th birthday. Having gone last year, I was excited to come back as I enjoyed my time previously. However, this trip was marred by overbooking. When we arrived we were told that one of our rooms would not be available until the next day. We were placed in an upgraded room for the night. The upgraded room was a king bed with pull out sofa right over the pool. We were not fans as the pool was loud and we did not have two beds as the original room was booked for. Not to mention unable to really unpack as we would be moving rooms the next day. Thankfully we did not have any excursions planned for the next day. When we went to switch rooms the next day after staff told us everything would be handled for us in terms of moving luggage and all, we were told a different story. Staff asked us to completely check out of the room and then come back at 330pm to check in for a new room. When asked what to do for the 3 hours we would not have a room, they told us to go hang out at the pool or beach. This was completely unacceptable as a hotel which charged me 30 days in advance for my room should not be overbooked for my reservation. After a back and forth with the staff they agreed to let us stay in our room until 330pm and then check us into the new room. This was a grey cloud over the birthday celebration and makes me hesitant to book again. I also noted several times that it was a birthday trip but my dad did not receive the birthday sash on his door. When people pay their hard earned money in advance there should never be an issue with room overbooking.
