A just re-renovated baronial manor house buried amongst the narrow alleyways and historic buildings of the old town. We got there after a very rapid taxi ride from the airport and found ourselves decanted in the nearby Placa de Quadrado, just a few metres from the attractive and peaceful courtyard which fronts the hotel entrance. We couldn't have received a more cheerful and friendly welcome from the reception staff who showed the same level of amiability and helpfulness throughout our visit. We were staying the in the Baron's Suite, a large spacious room at the top of the hotel. With a high ceiling and exposed beams, it was in faultless condition and looked very smart in a rather attractive mix of oatmeal and white. Not a mark, scratch or scuff anywhere so we were very careful to keep it that way. The giant bed was most comfortable with some quality linen and, although we overlooked an alleyway not far from bars and restaurants, our nights were undisturbed so we slept very well. There's plenty of storage space in the discreet fitted wardrobes which also concealed all the other usual bits and pieces like the safe, minibar, and hot beverage apparatus. The washroom facilities are positioned off the Suite hallway through a pair of sliding doors. The bath is tiny but the stylish marble wash basin area has plenty of surface space with a good selection of freebies and a sensible hairdryer. The W.C and shower are in a separate room. The spacious shower has simple controls and consistent hot water but, as is often the case, the shower door is poorly sealed so pools of water on the floor became annoyingly inevitable. From our room, it was an interesting route march to the rooftop terrace, the highlight being the collection of old Mallorcan tourism posters lining the walls of a stairwell which we had to navigate en route. The unconventional terrace itself is clean and well maintained with several places to sit, and there are a few loungers with parasols in situ. There's a pool too but it's microscopic. There was plenty of room up there during our visit, but it might be rather different story in high summer, and shade might be at a premium too. Breakfast is taken in the hotel restaurant just the other side of the Reception area. Star turn is the egg menu and orders are presented very artistically. There's an enticing buffet area by the front of the kitchen, and all items on show were good quality and well-stocked with maximum availability. The intriguing and varying selection of cake options were particularly welcome. No problems getting any type of hot drink or refreshes, and the staff on duty were always friendly and obliging. There are plenty of public areas on the ground floor; the external courtyard is probably very pleasant in summer whilst, indoors, the welcoming lounge area is decorated with flair although the ever-present modern jazz track may grind after a while. Positionally, the Terra Santa is only five minutes away from the rather impressive Placa Major so is quite central for everywhere worth visiting in the old town. Also, there are loads of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance so it really is quite a convenient location in a very evocative neighbourhood. We liked Palma a lot (particularly the weather in March), and the Terra Santa proved to be an excellent base in all respects; we would highly recommend it.
