“Good choice if you can get a good price deal”

I stayed in Hotel Cristall for a business trip to attend a very large annual scientific conference in Vienna. During such a conference, hotel rooms are usually at a premium. In particular in hotels conveniently located for the conference (which was at Vienna International Centre).I have been attending this conference for over 10 years now and as a result visit Vienna annually. For my stays I have several hotels that I consider and, depending on the price, I pick one or the other. This year, Hotel Cristall had a good deal again (€74 per night including breakfast). For that money I got a room in a conveniently located hotel, 5 minutes walking distance from Praterstern station. Also reasonably conveniently located for the CAT train to/from the airport (does require changing to the subway). The hotel and its room have character (positive view) or could be considered outdated (negative view). The bed and shower were good and the room was clean. These aspects for me are very important. The staff was friendly. The breakfast buffet (continental breakfast) was o.k. but nothing spectacular. The coffee machine was broken on the first two mornings of my stay. That was quite annoying. I understand how this can happen for one morning, but I do not understand why it could not be fixed before breakfast the next morning. Altogether, for the money I paid I got a good deal and would certainly recommend it. But be aware, as said I have several hotels I consider when travelling to this annual conference, and in previous years I have also see the rooms in this hotel go for twice the price I paid for it. That would, in my opinion, really be too much for what you get.

The Novum is a fairly old hotel which is definitely not designer but it’s clean and fairly economical. It’s 10 minutes walk from Praterstern main line and metro stations and 30 min walk to the old town. There is a luggage room. Breakfast includes hot and cold food but is far from a gastronomic delight. It’s ok but nothing special.

“Vienna in the August heat”

The rooms are small and don’t have air conditioning, or even a simple fan, it was hot here in August. Having the window open was the only option if you could stand the constant noise from the railway. The place was clean and tidy, staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are serviced with a change of towels and sheets daily, there is breakfast available for €6.90 which is okay. There is a Hofer ( Aldi ) a couple of doors down and a Billa super market across the road. The hotel is also very close to Praterstern station. Would I recommend this place to a friend? .... No I would not, I would go to Ibis, they are a similar price, have a/c and are quieter.
