I stayed a few years ago when this was the Adagio Ipanema. It is now under the Mercure brand but the change has not affected its theme nor the good service from the staff. Located halfway between Ipanema and Copacabana, you can just walk a few block and find yourself in either one. Great price and possibility to cook on your apartment.

“Great location and friendly staff”

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and it was perfect for what we wanted......nothing fancy but ideally located between Ipanema and Copacabana beaches. Plenty of good restaurants and bars to choose from, a very convenient supermarket nearby, a very nice breakfast and lovely friendly and helpful... more

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and it was perfect for what we wanted......nothing fancy but ideally located between Ipanema and Copacabana beaches. Plenty of good restaurants and bars to choose from, a very convenient supermarket nearby, a very nice breakfast and lovely friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were clean, spacious but nothing fancy and ours had a balcony but awful view of brick walls! One slight complaint would be that there were no blankets anywhere in the room and we were cold the first night. They happily provided a blanket but it would have been better to provide some in one of the many empty cupboards. Also, there was nothing to boil water in to make tea....although tea was provided. But generally we were VERY happy with our choice and would definitely return!!

LOCATION & ATTRACTIONS NEARBY *** I was there when it was still Aparthotel Adagio Rio de Janeiro Ipanema hotel and it was later re-branded. Location is perfect – just minutes away of famous Ipanema beach (and all its gay attractions, which was important for me), 10 min from Copacabana beach, Hippie Market on Sunday (3 min), some shops and restaurants. Area is safe, but as in Rio – be always careful. There’s car park attached to the hotel and guests can park their cars there. Now I am confused, if parking is free or not, but I was charged for one night parking and two others were treated as ‘free’. Anyway, good option when you have a car and want to be central. HOTEL OVERVIEW *** It is an already dated property requiring renovation. Location is fantastic and apartments are very spacious. Reception / lobby is tiny, same as restaurants, but rooms are actually really well sized. There’s small gym and swimming pool and guests are mix of local and international. PURPOSE OF THIS TRIP *** Leisure RESERVATION *** Booked through the accor.com website. Reservation was visible on their mobile app. Also reservation team was very helpful when I was emailing them my special requests and questions. LENGTH OF MY STAY *** 3 nights – Nov 2018 CHECK-IN *** I arrived very late and was quite tired after long flight. I have been assisted with my car to be parked and quickly went through the check-in procedure. LOBBY & RECEPTION *** Small & tiny, but gives you comfort from the heat outside and you can also grab a coffee or buy essentials there. ROOM *** #901 – Superior Apartment with 1 bedroom – top floor apartment as requested. OK... Spacious and generally clean, but definitely requires refurbishment. When I arrived, other apartments on my floor had some party, but this was not heard inside. My apartment had few pluses and also few minuses. The size of it was great. Living room with a kitchenette, separate bedroom and attached bathroom. More than enough. It was quite worn/used already (scratches, broken pieces of furniture, “repairs” etc.), but I have to admit, this was comfortable place today for 3 nights and I felt it was good value for money. Living room with a sofa and bedroom with queen bed had separate air-conditioning units, 2 TVs and also you open windows (which I like) with some minimal noise from the street. There are no electric sockets near beds, no USB ports, out of shape lamps and shelves, but bizarrely, it didn’t bother me that much. Bed was clean and comfortable, A/C worked perfectly fine. Living room was connected with the kitchenette. There’s coffee/tea kit, which is great, but no kettle or pot to boil the water... I found out later, you can borrow it free of charge from reception. Interesting way for extra work & hassle for staff. There’s a fridge, microwave oven, some cutlery and recycling bin. Kitchenette lamp was “repaired” with some tape – interesting haha. Again, requires full renovation to bring it back to standard. BATHROOM *** Spacious, but for some strange reason, with a miniature sink (space for 5 of them at least). Toiletries are provided in a re-usable dispensers, which is OK when... when they’re filled up. Mine was only for shampoo and it was only replenished only on the last day (I had my own shower gel, so kept forgetting to mention it at reception). BREAKFAST *** This is the highlight of my stay. Served on 1st floor and charged extra (around 10 EUR). IT WAS DELICIOUS! Not huge in size, but everything you want on a god Brazilian breakfast. Plenty of warm and cold dishes and meals, fresh juices, desserts and cakes, selection of fresh fruit, tapiocas, Pão de queijo (cheese bread) etc. Meals changed every day and I absolutely loved it. Also, there’s Nespresso machine you can use, but I found even regular filtered coffee extremely tasty. I loved their breakfasts and would go there just for it alone (I think you can). 3 times delighted! INTERNET ACCESS *** Wi-fi was complimentary and connection was good on top floor. CHECK-OUT EXPERIENCE *** I was able to leave my luggage & car for a while and come back when leaving. I was a little bit confused with the parking fees, but didn’t really have time to question it at the end. STAFF *** Very helpful and professional, especially reception. Always happy to help and assist. Thank you. OVERVIEW *** Despite all my negative comments, I would love to stay there again (this was my 2nd visit). Location is perfect and apartments are safe & comfortable. Staff is attentive & helpful, parking available and they do serve an amazing breakfast! This time it’s Mercure and I hope renovations will be done soon.
