The hotel is ideally situated. 15 mins walk from the main train station, 5 mins walk from the musuem, and kilkenny castle and high street. Family-friendly hotel, spacious and clean rooms, cozy bar, and friendly staff. The hotel also provides with leisure center facilities that I wasn't able to use on this occasion but my family thoroughly enjoyed it.

The deluxe family room was fantastic for a family of four. The staff was lovely, kind, and helpful. The breakfast was delicious, the beds comfortable and the room was very clean. The only disappointment was that the pool was closed to kids at 19:00. We would have loved to go for a swim as a family after dinner.

“Why have a Leisure area if people are not allowed to use it!”

The hotel itself was a bit outdated, but I was upset with the young lady at the pool. We were told that the pool closed at 8:00, but a person needed to be there by 7:30. After spending the day exploring in the wet I was looking forward to sitting in the hot tub. My husband and I rushed through dinner to get to the leisure center by 7:30, we entered the leisure center at 7:25 and the young lady WOULD NOT let us in. I had time to walk across the street to the main desk to ask if I misunderstood, and it still wasn't 7:30. The staff member at the desk was willing to call over to the young lady which I was grateful for but the damage was already done.

We checked in on a Thursday evening, check in was smooth and very helpful, organised a camp bed and all for my 3 year old (mattress could be better, my son kept saying it was sore to lie on, ended up sleeping in the bed with me) The hotel itself is lovely and spacious, staff can be a bit slow to clean up the lobby area, we sat one evening for a drink, and there were tables full of empty glasses and plates, I called back down to reception later on the night 10pm, to enquire about a late night chemist (there is none past 8:30pm) and the lobby area was in bits! Not a great look. We stayed in room 232, nicely decorated, mattress on double bed was ok, but in parts was a bit hard and you could feel the springs in other parts, the bathroom has limescale build up on the taps (for a 4 star hotel I’d expect not to find that) the doors were a bit worn, toilet seat was broken! Breakfast was ok, bit average, , My son loved the pancakes, it was nice touch for him to be able to watch them being made, staff were very helpful when the machine wouldn’t work! The hot food was a bit of a disaster, mushrooms are saturated in herbs, it’s like eating a mouthful straight out of the herb container, the scrambled egg was really runny,the potatoes were like mashed potatoes, bacon was hard! Swimming pool had heated flooring, was nice, showers could do with a bit of tlc, tiles coming off the double shower and the shower heads were a bit disgusting, my son loved the waterfall and the bubble volcano. The day we were leaving, we decided to go to the car first with our belongings we had left some water and food behind that we were coming back for as we had no room to carry any more, around 11:10am (check out 12) we left the room and the housekeeping staff were in the corridor doing their jobs, we were 4 feet away when one staff member entered our room (we hadn’t even checked out) called another member of staff and started making huffing and tuffing noises! I find this extremely disrespectful and embarrassing. It has really turned us off ever coming back. I’ve worked 18 years in hospitality and never would leave a room in a state or make a customer feel the way we felt! We didn’t go back to the room as we were too embarrassed!
