Ernest Hemingway use to stay at Hotel de la Poste when he was in Cortina and room 107 bears his name. It’s my 5 stay (if I remember correctly). I will return next year and the year after because it’s a home away from home with great wibe, staff (Lorenzo the head concierge), location, bar, restaurant and breakfast but above all history and tradition. I love Hotel de la Poste and so did Hemingway.

We stayed here for four nights at the start of February. The hotel occupies the best position in Cortina - in the central square with the ski bus right outside (although the Faloria cable car is easily walkable). The hotel is hugely characterful, and the bar is obviously a very popular meeting place for residents and non-residents alike. Our superior room was very spacious , with a balcony and views onto the Main Street. Wide choice of food at breakfast. The concierge, Lorenzo, ably support by Jamie, was incredibly helpful throughout, whether picking up our lift passes, booking taxis or advising on best routes to the slopes. But there are some drawbacks: WiFi in rooms very patchy and needs improvement. Rooms are a bit dated, although to be fair this matches the overall feel of the hotel - but really need to have proper shower units (although bath “mixer” shower was surprisingly powerful). Actually being offered coffee at breakfast rather than having to chase down the waiting staff each morning would also have been good. So overall, really liked the hotel and would stay again, but felt that these fixes would make a big difference.

Old and charming hotel (though dated in places) in great location. Staff were generally very friendly and helpful. Free parking option worked well. Recommend contacting the hotel for a quote before committing to an online booking. We got a cheaper quote by email which unfortunately arrived after we had made our online reservation. If considering, half-board, it is much cheaper to pre-book (€30 vs €45) though must be taken for entire stay. We opted for B&B and were glad we did as the à la carte dinner the first night didn’t deliver for us at all. Had it been good we would certainly have eaten in again. We thought the main dining-room looked soulless and ate in the smaller room. Nice bar but very expensive - double what we paid everywhere else in town and on the mountain. Room 105 was a very good Superior Double - spacious with big balcony and dual aspect overlooking Piazza Roma and the mountains. Good and refurbished bathroom though the hand-held shower over a slippery bath was not ideal. The little walk in wardrobe was great! Everything was spotless. Decor and furniture nice but dated and they could definitely do with upgrading the pillows and duvets! For a 4* hotel, breakfast should have been a lot better. Reasonable choice on buffet but of mediocre quality - poor scrambled or cold boiled were the only included egg options, not a great selection of cold meats and only pre-sliced cheese. We didn’t spot the extras menu as not on tables and at checkout were charged €20 for an order of two fried eggs (reduced to €10 when queried) - nothing short of outrageous. The very small boot room at the bottom of a steep stairs to street level was fine but wouldn’t work well in busy periods. The recommended ski shop was good and 5-10 mins walk away. Ski buses stop right outside but weren’t frequent when we were there mid-week so often very busy. Hotel didn’t supply any advice, piste maps or timetables which would have been useful. The set up at Socrepes (via No. 3 bus) was a pain - long bus journey followed by a hike across a car park. We subsequently discovered the No 8 minibus service which goes to Freccia nel Cielo gondola - so much better and linked to the same ski area though way back wasn’t clear to us.
