Hotel Lorena

“Excelent location”

This small hotel was a major surprise for me. The location is excellent, is at Piazza San Lorenzo) in the Heart of Florence. Walking distance to every major attraction, Aldo the staff is very friendly and helpful excellent hotel for the money.

This place is literally 5 minutes walking, from S.M. Novella train station. We came out the front side of the station, walked across the street, turned the corner at the McDonald's, and walked a couple blocks to the hotel. This hotel is located in a square, that is pretty lively. There are plenty of dining options around, also a .99 cent store is on the plaza, an ATM, vendors selling souvenirs and snacks. The duomo is only 5 minutes walking, and Ponte Vecchio is about 10-15 minutes walking. I was given a room with a view of the duomo. How lovely was that! When i opened up the windows and shutters, the view over the piazza and the cupola of the duomo, was right at my fingertips. When i arrived, there was another guest checking in, so we sat and waited about 15 minutes, to be checked in. While we were waiting, a worker came to us and gave us a map, and explained where the sights were. He also took our bags to the room, and showed us what's what, in the room. Very nice guy. An older gentleman who was also very nice, checked us in, and went over our charges, breakfast options(5 or 6 eurs - boiled eggs, cold cereal, fruit, cold cuts), and told us to leave the key at the desk, when we leave. Since this hotel is 24 hours, there's always someone there to get the keys from, when you come back. We had a twin room and it was very clean. The only downside to this property, is that you have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the check in. Once there, you will be able to take a lift. Warning, the lift is very small... 2 people, 2 large luggage, take off backpacks and suck your stomach in. Other small con was, it's time for an update in the bathrooms. Don't get me wrong, the bathroom was very clean, but they're still using the green color sinks and toilets. All in all, we had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again. You can't beat the location, the price to be in that location, and all that's nearby.

The location was good, our room was a decent size and it was handy to have a sink in the room. It’s a little old and dated but nice enough for a one nights stay close to the train station. They had lactose free milk (Zymil) available at breakfast upon asking - which was great! The staff were friendly. The shower could do with a good clean, and we couldn’t work out how to use the aircon (not the property’s fault). Breakfast was average but was 5euros each - the pastries didn’t taste fresh.
