“Funky, fun hotel”

Great hotel to start exploring Japan from. The breakfast was a wonderful buffet. The rooms compact but comfortable. Walkable to station and limousine bus stop. Very modern interior and dj on Friday night downstairs was a nice vibe. Park right outside.

Really lovely boutique type of hotel just 20 minute walk from shinjuku station so I found it very central. Staff were lovely. Check in was very smooth. Rooms are small but perfect, lovely and clean. Really lovely boutique type of hotel just 20 minute walk from shinjuku station so I found it very central. Staff were lovely. Check in was very smooth. Rooms are small but perfect, lovely and clean. Breakfast was fantastic. Bread from the bakery in the hotel and plenty of it! I would highly recommend going to the bakery when you are there. Wi-Fi was also good in the rooms especially! Very busy hotel with people from the hotel and outside. Would definitely recommend!

“BEWARE THE 10AM CHECKOUT!!!”

I really wanted to like this place but the 10am checkout was the deal breaker for me. The pros: Good location, nice bakery and bar, modern design The cons: 10am checkout that was not disclosed at check in, impersonal staff, complicated check in process, small rooms with terrible use of space Definitely some good and bad here but the bottom line is not to stay here if it's your last night in Tokyo and you have a long travel day ahead. Expect to receive a phone call at 10:15am on your last day demanding 1000 yen for the opportunity to stay until the industry standard checkout time of 11am. Would've been nice if the staff had disclosed this information at check in since a 10am checkout is highly unusual. Not the best way to start a 20+ hour travel day!

“Poorly designed room”

I want to give this hotel high marks. But I can’t. It’s in a great location - an easy and pleasant 5 minute walk across the park to the nearest subway station. It’s modern. The reception and lobby area, with a restaurant, a bakery, and an enormous table at which to sit, work or eat, are convivial. And the huge illuminated sign on the roof is a useful beacon when walking back from, say, Shinjuku. But the room itself irritated me for its incredibly poor design. It was described as a Queen, but felt distinctly like a Single with a queen bed shoved in. The bed frame juts into the walk space around the bed. If you go to the bathroom at night, and forget that it’s there, you will bang into the bed frame as you return. The frame has a sharp edge and I managed to cut deep scratches into myself twice. What makes this worse is that the room doesn’t have any closet space. Instead there are four hangers on a rail that sits directly across from the jutting bed frame. So when you have clothes on the hangars it narrows that space even further such that, to exit the room, you have to turn sideways to squeeze through. I would think it is a hazard in the event of an earthquake or fire. The far side of the bed is squeezed against the wall, so if you are on the left side of the bed and need to go to the bathroom at night, you have to crawl over your partner. Likewise, there is only one bedside light. It’s on the left side of the bed. But the switch is on the right side of the bed! So the person using the light can’t control it. Another disadvantage of being squeezed right up against the wall is that you can hear the people next door if they happen to be engaged in any kind of activity. The room is meant for two but there is only one chair to sit at the little coffee table - so we turned the garbage can upside down to create a second seat. The light for the bathroom, for some unaccountable reason, is on the hinge side of the door, and the door opens into the room. You have to turn on the light before you open the door, which means the light floods the bedroom far longer than it would if the switch were on the other side, inevitably waking your partner. Finally, I object to being treated like a child. In the bathroom I counted no fewer than 16 instructional stickers: on the lamp above the sink: “do not use without a proper lighting equipment…”; on the toilet: “do not stand on toilet”; on the sink: how to work the faucets; on the door: how to work the lock … For an international hotel I thought it was pretty insulting
