“Fabulous!”

We stayed for a week in June 2023 after staying at another Lux resort the previous year. It didn’t disappoint. We had a lovely stay - delicious food, we loved Bodrum Blue and also INTI where we were serenaded by a wonderful guy singing and playing the guitar! We also booked a rum tasting evening which was good fun! The staff were friendly and the resort was lovely with beautiful beaches and banyan trees. We took a private helicopter trip around the island, organised by Lux which we’d highly recommend too! We hope to visit again soon!!

My husband and I spent 10 nights at Lux Grand Gaube in May 2024 for our honeymoon. I’ll try to split this review up into separate sections as it’s quite a long one! If you don’t fancy the 5 minute read then here’s the synopsis; amazing country, jaw dropping location and just the best people. We will be visiting again! The resort - Absolutely stunning setting with plenty of communal areas for sitting and drinking/chilling out. There is a ‘family beach’ where we spent most of our time and also an adults only beach and pool which is a little more out of the way and away from the water sports activities. Everywhere is well signposted and there are so many little hidden gems like the junkyard and the cinema that kept us busy for the whole 10 days. The entrance lobby has a beautiful view of the sea that really took our breath away when we arrived. The room - We stayed in a Junior Wellness Suite which had an incredible view of the bay from the terrace. The room decor was quite simple and modern with a few splashes of colour and the bed was huge! The bathroom had a lovely roll top bath and very large shower. There is shampoo, conditioner and shower gel provided. The turn down service every evening was a nice touch. On the downside, we did have issues with some ants in the wardrobe area but after speaking to reception this was sorted and we were left with some spray in case we needed it at my husbands request. Restaurants - Palm court buffet was pleasantly surprising as I personally often find the buffet restaurants can leave much to be desired at some all inclusive resorts but this wasn’t the case. My husband was disappointed it wasn’t open at lunch time (as the food was very good and plenty of choice) but there are plenty of other lunch time options. Sometimes it could take a bit of time to get served but once into the swing of things that wasn’t a problem. Bodrum blue - probably our favourite restaurant at the resort. The food is Turkish and we ate there 4 or 5 times in total and every time the service and food was brilliant. Special shout out to Jean Christoph who was so lovely. Creole smokehouse - this is in a gorgeous setting underneath the Banyan tree. I highly recommend the prawn curry and my husband’s choice would be the ribs! Ashwan and Anadiel were wonderful and always looked after us. BBs - we both really enjoyed the food here but sometimes the service was a bit slow, due to the staff covering the adult only beach for take away food as well. Inti - not included in all inclusive but well worth a visit, especially as it’s 30% off for half board or all inclusive guests. We loved our meal here and found the prices very reasonable. Bahvika and Yaseer served us and were exceptional, our glasses were never empty and they gave us an extra churro for dessert so we didn’t have to share 3 between two of us. It’s the little things that leave a lasting impression! Beach Rouge - great location right on the beach. We found some of the food options were a bit ‘heavy’ for lunchtime. In the evening when we ate on the beach and were very impressed. The manager (really sorry we can’t remember his name!) looked after us and ensured we had an amazing evening. Activities - One of our favourite things about the resort was that a number of water sports were included. My husband and I tried everything and he especially loved the water skiing as someone who isn’t so good at sitting on a sun bed and reading all day! I used the gym a few times which does get quite busy early in the mornings. I was quite impressed with how well equipped it was for a small gym. We didn’t get round to trying the tennis or table tennis but there are plenty of things to keep you busy. We found a couple of ‘messages in a bottle’ which is one benefit of being up early and used these for a couple of experiences. One was the Rum tasting experience which we LOVED. Anadiel is so knowledgeable and has a great sense of humour with it. Then we also had a private cinema session facilitated by Sebastien who organised it very quickly (the same day as we didn’t have much time left on our holiday). One day we went out on a boat trip organised through Captain Tom who is such a lovely man. The boat was a traditional one and we were taken to see the mangrove trees that grow in the sea then onto a little island for a BBQ. The food was probably one of the best meals we had our whole stay. Drinks were provided the whole day too and the island was very picturesque. Included with the junior wellness suite was unlimited access to the spa and a couples massage. We booked this one morning and were very impressed with the facilities. It felt like a separate little haven from the moment we walked through the door and was really worth visiting. The massage was super relaxing too. As we were on honeymoon, there were some extra things included. These were: cocktail making which was good fun, breakfast by the pool - we enjoyed it, however there were quite a few couples there so didn’t feel as personal and we forgot to ask for the provided bubbles. We also had canapés and sparkling wine in the room and there was one special dinner by the pool which we didn’t end up having as we had it on the beach instead which was very romantic. Staff - The reception staff were consistently friendly and helpful with any queries we had. Niv helpfully organised late checkout for us on our last day which was great and meant we didn’t have a mad rush and could keep the room until 5pm when we left. In the restaurants, as mentioned above, a few members of staff really stood out and made our stay extra special - Yaseer, Bhavika, Jean, Ashwan, Anadiel and many more. We spent a couple of days by the main pool where Manav looked after us extremely well and kept us hydrated and always came over to say hello and have a little chat which was lovely. Last but most certainly not least - from our first day on the main beach to our final day, Reedoo went above and beyond to look after us. He clearly loves his job and is one of the most genuine people we have ever met. He really made our honeymoon special and helped sort out many extra little touches including our day trip out on the boat with Captain Tom, dinner on the beach, helping us to find the message in a bottle, pointing us in the direction of Individuals who could help us with any queries and providing us a cool box each morning (taking into account what he’d noticed we like to drink). On top of all of this, kindly not letting us go a day with smeared sunglasses and the face mist were little touches but really make us feel special. On our last couple of days, he organised a special lunch for us at each of the restaurants where we just turned up and were given traditional Mauritian dishes and didn’t know what we were having. They were things we probably wouldn’t have chosen ourselves but every dish was amazing (as well as the restaurant staff that made it all happen!). We can’t thank him enough and saying goodbye was very emotional! Thank you to everyone at Lux Grand Gaube, we had the most amazing honeymoon and will be sending our friends and family so they can experience it too. Mr & Mrs Syddall (Room 6005)

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel last year so much that we booked another. Other reviewers may detail a hotels facilities, but in this review we want to concentrate on the employees who can have such a bearing on ones holiday experience. Those at LUX* Grand Gaube are fantastic. Despite the months that had elapsed as soon as we arrived Vikram one of the porters recognised us as did Kenny from the gym who happened to be passing. In fact to our surprise quite a few others did as well during our stay. We opted for a Wellness suite which was well positioned for the adults only beach and pool. Our room was well serviced daily by the always cheerful Sucheeta who would leave lovely floral decorations on our bed. Mention must be made of Liam on the beach, Roma who took us out sailing on the catamaran, along with Sun and the other ladies at the Spa. In the Palm Court restaurant a wide selection of food is provided to suit all tastes and unlike some hotels where the deserts look enticing but when you eat them they are a let down, here the deserts taste as good as they look. Hazna produced some great stir fries to order in her fiery wok.Where we sat, attentive service was provided by the great team of Saheed, Kevin, Mevine and Varsha. As a finale to a wonderful holiday, David the Executive Chef arranged a lovely lunch for us at Bodrum Blue, the Turkish restaurant. Thank you so much. We regard ourselves as "ordinary" people but the experience provided by the employees at the LUX* Grand Gaube made us feel very special. We would happily recommend the hotel and would be delighted to return again.
