“An enjoyable stay”

A quiet and nice stay in a warming environment. The staff is dedicated and the decoration reminds of a family home. The rooms have an enjoyable size et the room service is a good option if you feel tired. The bathroom items are well chosen and the beds are top quality 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

The staff at this hotel were so kind and attentive to our needs that this would have been a five star review but the problem is that the nature of the building means rooms have no soundproofing so you can hear every creak and footstep. If you also happen to have guests in the room above who persistently seem to be marching up and down their room (after midnight), even after having been asked by a staff member to please keep the noise down, sleep becomes impossible. We were offered an alternative room (a lovely suite) so moved at 1.00 am. We were allowed to keep the new room for the remainder of our stay at no additional cost, offered complimentary drinks etc. The staff could not do enough for us.

The Academy is a smaller hotel in a row of Georgian townhouses that are all converted to small hotels. It is right across the (small, quiet) street from UCL, and down the street from the large hospital there, also not too far of a walk from St. Pancras, which is why I selected the location. The hotel interior is nicely updated, tastefully trendy, and in really good condition with staff that is trained for upscale hotel service. Our room was clean and well appointed with a really comfy bed and lovely bathroom with excellent water pressure. Good TV and wifi, nice window into a courtyard so we could keep the window open, which was great because it was 65 degrees in London in February so the heat was up. The reasons why this isn't a 5 star review: the location is a bit odd if you're not there for the university or the hospital. the street almost feels like there couldnt' possibly be a hotel on it, it's so quiet and dead. There is a nice side street less than a block away that has little restaurants and heads toward the more lively part of this university area, but it still felt like you were miles away from everything. To get to Westminster or the National Gallery or any points south or west of the hotel, you have to walk through the touristy theater district, which isn't great for the kind of travel I like. The other concern is that there is no elevator and some of the rooms - like ours - were in the basement. Yes, basement. we still looked out to a courtyard that had trees above it and birds chiriping, but getting bags up and down was really a hassle with the tight stairs and myriad British fire doors, mulitple little shifts in the floor levels, etc. Breakfast was also in the basement. The breakfast room was tasteful and pretty and bright, however, a lot of Hyatts internationally have been converted to modern/american accessibility standards, and this one has not. It's just too small and it's understandable why they haven't. All that said, though, I used my points at this hotel, and for us, it was really satisfactory and also very well renovated, stylish, clean, etc. If you're heading to London to take long walks through Kensington and Mayfair and whatnot, this location is not it. If you are looking for an upscale hotel at prices in line with being a really long walk to everything, this place is perfect. You'll feel well cared for and enjoy a marble bathroom and decent breakfast and a really comfortable bed.
