My wife and I booked this B&B for a two week visit to Salento because we thought that it would offer excellent value for money. We were correct! This quietly unpretentious but functional and clean B&B is absolutely excellent. We landed late in the day at Brindisi and by the time we had picked up the car and driven down to Santa Cesario di Lecce it was 22.00, we were tired, exhausted and somewhat irritable. However, all that changed when we met our host Andrea. He was the perfect host, and had waited long past normal business hours to welcome us. He was kind, friendly and made us feel genuinely welcome. Andrea also spoke a useful amount of English and between that and our ‘pidgin’ Italian we got on very well indeed. While we have been staying here nothing has proved too much for Andrea. My wife has certain dietary intolerances and Andrea has gone out of his way to find food that is right for her. Andrea could not have done more for us in helpfully providing local information whenever we needed it. We took up residence in the Venta room, a large well appointed and functional space with a fridge, excellent air conditioning and its own en-suite bathroom and enclosed veranda. Parking always proved readily available in the road outside. San Cesario di Lecce is probably not the first port of call that the traveller to Puglia might call to mind, but as is so often found on the Road Less Travelled it reveals itself as a little gem. As a working town and off the tourist route, the old centre of San Cesario di Lecce remains mostly ungentrified and the older buildings are all architectural treasures. The visitor should look out for the antique wrought-iron street lights adorning the walls of the older parts of the town. The people we met were friendly with lots of “buongiornos’ offered as we strolled about. The other reason that we chose San Cesario di Lecce is its transport links, it is well connected by bus road and rail services with Lecce and the rest of Salento and Puglia. We would heartily recommended this B&B, in fact this is more than just a bed and breakfast, it is a friendly home from home where the English visitor may feel comfortable and well catered for.
