Left out of Toronto Canada Apr.16-23rd, 7 days of pure bliss. Don’t hesitate with this resort, it’s a gem. When we arrived our room was ready and our room was almost perfect everything worked only complaint is I wish our gorgeous view on the balcony overlooking the ocean we had the morning sun and shade in the afternoon as it could get very hot by mid day. 7 days of pure sunshine, wonderful food, if your picky you will find something. The amount of variety is there. The service top notch. I asked for 2 extra pillows they were at my door with them right away. The drinks were so delicious and the Spanish coffee was awesome. There is a cappuccino bar serving coffee and pastries and fruit always had a coffee early in the morning sitting watching the cruise ships coming in and the view of Lands End. It never gets old. I could sit there all day. The beach is not swimable but we knew that, we walked it but it’s not easy it’s kind of like walking in deep snow. The waves can get very big and you could hear them from your room with the doors shut. We definitely want to come back to this gorgeous place, we miss it already. Do the boat trip in the clear boat to Lands End and get pictures and a walk around town. We got our souvenirs there. Too expensive at the resort. Enjoy yourself it’s a special place. It’s a desert so you will see lots of cactus’s and nice dry heat. Thank you Riu for making our 45th Wedding Anniversary special with champagne and chocolate strawberries. Thank you for everything we loved it.

“Excellent Stay at the RIU”

The hotel is beautiful and we enjoyed our stay! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I loved the decor of the rooms and the hotel. No complaints! Restaurants were wonderful and accommodating. The food was delicious. We definitely plan to visit again.

“Nice resort, but seriously disturbing treatment of injured wildlife!”

We recently stayed at Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas and overall, the resort itself was fairly good in many ways. The rooms were comfortable and reasonably clean, and the food was good with plenty of variety, so it was easy to find something you liked each day. That said, the layout is not ideal for anyone with mobility issues. I was traveling with my senior mother-in-law, and there are a lot of stairs throughout the property. Even accessing washrooms from the pool area requires going up and down stairs, which was inconvenient and at times difficult for her. Pool seating was also typical of Cabo—loungers get taken early but there are lots. And as expected in this area, the ocean isn’t swimmable due to rough conditions. Unfortunately, what happened on our second day completely overshadowed anything positive about this stay. We noticed a pelican resting in the shade near the beach entrance to the resort. It was very clear the bird was unwell. I asked a staff member if they could call someone to help it. Instead, from the pool area, I watched multiple staff members begin poking and prodding the poor animal to force it out of the shaded area. They pushed it into the hot sun and burning sand. The pelican kept collapsing and couldn’t get back up, but they continued until it was moved beyond the resort boundary ropes—essentially off their property. I pleaded with them to stop and to help the bird, both in English and in the limited Spanish I know. I was completely ignored, and at one point it even appeared they were laughing. This was witnessed by several guests in the pool area overlooking the beach, many of whom were visibly upset and disgusted. Once the pelican was out on the public beach, things got even worse. Beach vendors began throwing sand at it while it lay there suffering. At that point, we went to the front desk to report the situation and ask them to contact a marine wildlife rescue organization. The response we received was shocking. The staff showed no concern and told us they would call someone to move the bird further away so guests wouldn’t have to see it. When I specifically asked if they could contact a marine wildlife rescue centre, I was told they “don’t do that.” I ended up contacting a rescue organization myself, and they were in the process of sending help. Sadly, the pelican died before they could arrive. We then had to watch as staff placed the bird in a garbage bag and removed it. I have stayed at RIU Hotels & Resorts properties for years and have always had positive experiences. However, this incident was so upsetting and disturbing that it has completely changed my perception. The lack of basic compassion and refusal to take responsibility was shocking. This will be my last stay at a RIU resort. This trip was my first time in Cabo as well and seeing the stark contrast in living conditions between the resort area and the surrounding community was difficult and uncomfortable in a way I haven’t experienced in other parts of Mexico. Not a fan of the area and definitely don’t recommend this resort after what we witnessed.
