“Great place for family holiday”

We stayed for about 2 weeks and found this a great place, not too big or busy, it is clean and tidy. Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Supermarket and the beach are in walking distance. We had a great stay.

We booked 12a...villa plus. There was good communication between us and David before and during the holiday. He responded to all messages and questions fairly quickly. There is no ac but fans are provided. There is no safe, which I did worry about but David assured us our passports and money would be safe as long as they were locked away and the villa locked securely when we went out. We had a double room with double bed, ceiling fan and on suite bathroom. The second room had twin single beds and the third had bunk beds. There is another bathroom. kitchen and sitting room come diner. The villa is spacious but slightly dated hence the 2 star. It is a small complex with a pool and 2 min walk to the beach which is lovely. We arrived Monday 2nd july 2018, the complex was quiet so we managed to share the pool with other families without any problems. On Sat 7th July several families with several children arrived together and took over the pool and complex, this is unfortunate as there was never any space in the pool for my grandchildren and in the evening they all gathered together at the back of our villa to prepare a bbq and eat, it was like a cafe the way they had the table laid out, they also used both bbq's, one of which was on the veranda of the villa which I assume is for holiday makers who rented the villa. Luckily we did not want to use it that night. The upside is they did quieten down at around 11 so it could have been worse and I guess that can be downside of communal holidays. In spite of this glitch we had had a great holiday and all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

My partner and I stayed at the Arenal Playa Apartments a few weeks ago, and having read all the wonderful reviews, when we arrived I wondered if I'd booked the right place. We arrived at 10.30pm and made our way to reception, which according to Booking.com was open until midnight, only to find it closed and locked. I spoke to some young couples, who were sat chatting nearby, and they told me that reception was NEVER open, and that if my wife and I went to our apartment we would find it open and the key inside. That would have been easy enough, except no one had bothered to tell us which apartment we were staying in. I phoned 'David', who I assumed was the owner, and after a minute or two he told us we were in apartment 11. The apartment itself was small - the bedroom particularly - it wasn't big enough for both of us to get ready for an evening out at the same time - that wasn't an issue as it gave me an excuse to worry a gin and tonic as my other half got ready. One thing that concerned me though was that there was an electric socket literally inches from the bathroom sink - i'm sure that isn't legal. The apartment wasn't particularly clean either - there was a large gathering of hair and dust stuck to the back of the bathroom door, and after walking barefoot through into the bedroom I had to brush sand and what appeared to be two minute snails from the soles of my feet. Previous reviewers commented on the quiet location of the apartments , and indeed they are quiet - situated in a quiet area of a quiet resort on a quiet island - so yes, they are quiet - that said, the lack of soundproofing means that your apartment is only as quiet as the other people staying in attached apartments. A Spanish father singing to his crying baby daughter can be really endearing, but not at 6.45am! And on another occasion my partner had to ask the people at a neighbouring villa to turn their music down. Others have also mentioned the friendly staff - my question would be what staff? We met 'David' on two occasions - the first was when he dropped by to collect the balance owed on the apartment, and the second (quite by chance) he took another 25Euros from me so we could have a late check out. As for the cleaner? She changed our towels once during the week - didn't do any cleaning, tidying up or anything - merely swapped the towels. I would imagine that having the same sheets for a whole week during June, July or August is an issue, simply because the apartment doesn't have air conditioning - so if you're travelling with children in the Summertime, my advice would be stay somewhere else because your children will roast.
