We would like to thank Guinate club for a lovely stay 19-26th March. Lovely clean complex. Apartments are a great size and well equipped. Comfy beds and a great shower. Enjoyed some nice drinks at the pool bar. Didn’t use the pool as had a funny week weather wise. If we could make one note of improvement it would be to put a sensor light at the entrance you come through after 11pm as it’s difficult to see the steps to the lower level in the dark.

I’ll start with the positives to justify my ‘good’ rating. Staff amazing. Greta (I promised I would give you a mention!) didn’t hesitate to move us when we arrived to find we’d been allocated room 104. As much as I appreciated that our room was ready, it was dark, ground floor and 5 seconds from reception (too much traffic!). With 3 children, we hoped for pool side and upper floor. This was specifically mentioned in my email several weeks earlier but not recorded on the staff’s print out. This was quickly remedied when Greta reallocated us to room 110. This was in a quieter part upper floor but still within 30 seconds of the main pool. Perfect. There was a broken tile issue on the balcony but the room was ready for us. Inside the apartments are worn and basic but very clean, fresh white towels, lovely bedding (maybe an extra pillow per guest?) and washing liquid offered in the shower area. There is a generous amount of beds around the pool and although the main pool is smaller than I would have expected for the complex size, for early season it was fine. Summer time I would expect it is a fight over beds and an overcrowded pool! Also we did not have to bring out our own beach towels as they were only €3 to hire from reception. Location wise, Guinates is further back in PDC but nicely positioned for the Lidl or smaller supermarkets. There are many ways to navigate your way to the ‘strip’ and Cardiac Hill wasn’t quite as scary as I’d been told, even for someone who has mobility issues like myself. Cleaning staff. We were more than impressed with the number of towel changes, toilet roll replenishment, tidying around, clearing away. Shout out to the lovely maintenance bloke as well. These staff members often get overlooked by guests. Not by me as a mum of 3 children LOL. On the last day although we were able to stay longer in our apartment, we still had to vacate at 3pm but being picked up at 5.30pm meant we needed somewhere to change. Turns out on the back of earlier feedback from several months ago, a shower room has been installed, which was perfect for us (maybe include shine gel as well?). There was however also a luggage room to store bags safely, which worked great for guests who do not stay in their rooms for a later check out. Also as it was our anniversary the day we left, Greta had not forgotten and presented me with a lovely bottle of bubbly and a card. Thank you so much. This was really special. So for my niggles. I’m really sorry. As much as I loved the complex and we made some lovely connections, there were definitely some undesirables as well. I know that other guests raised issues but these were dismissed by staff as ‘people having fun on holiday’. No this is not OK. Not when it affects other guests who are equally on their holiday as well and are showing respect toward others. So the apartment allocations. You seriously need to rethink the rooms next to reception. I know you have installed a shower room but I can only imagine that when it is busier, you’ll need extra areas for people to change when it is late flights and no late check out availability. Just a thought. 104 was dark, no light. Thank god we got moved but I know the guests who were then allocated that room were really upset and I can totally understand why. Especially arriving late at night. As much as we appreciated being reallocated to room 110, we were not made aware that historically there had been a cockroach issue and previous guests had been moved because of it. It became an issue for us on the 2nd day when a few appeared during the morning. I know they are nocturnal insects searching for food and water but during the day, it’s an issue. That night we slept with all the lights on, including in the bedroom which meant we had very little sleep. I went to speak to reception and spoke to the manager. He was very understanding and offered to move us to ‘104’. Wow that room is really unappreciated! Lol. He also said that it can be normal for cockroaches in Lanzarote. Yep that’s fair enough but not on the scale we had them! It was evident they were coming through the AC unit in the lounge area. He also didn’t acknowledge that there had been a problem before until I mentioned it and he thought it had been sorted. Clearly not. The lovely maintenance bloke and his other colleague ‘sorted it’ but a couple of nights before leaving they were back again. So we kept the lights on throughout the week. The odd one I cope with but this was definitely an issue for that room and it transpired it was for the room below us too! Other guests I spoke to had no issues at all so it is clearly in certain rooms. I was also surprised at the still putting toilet paper in bins. I felt like I’d been transported back to Greece from 35 years ago! Thankfully ours was changed every couple of days but surely it’s time to look at this!? The guests. Where do I start? As a mum of 3 children I am forever stressed about being considerate of others. I would never do anything to blatantly upset other people. This includes playing loud music that is battling against the pool bar music. Also miserable guests who insist on sitting right in front of the child’s pool day after day then constantly shake heads or tut when a child dares walk past them (Mr Scotland you know who you are!). Thank the lord the grumpy man left 4 days before us so we could finally enjoy our time. Finally and this is a big one for me - smoking drugs on the complex is utterly wrong. I am happy to be contacted about this as I don’t believe it is the norm for you as a company to tolerate this but it really spoilt my holiday to see this happening when the family had very young children. It was evident from the smell that it was being smoked within the apartment as well. Pool bar - can’t say a lot as we didn’t eat there but the ice creams were extortionate! €4.50 each. Please put freezers in the room! Finally and generally minor - no freezer area or basic washing up and sponge. I would imagine you have a lot left from vacating guests! You are proactive with recycling, be wise with guest waste that can also finished off. All in all we had a good stay but unlikely we’ll be back.

The Guinate Club Aparthotel is attractive and well-designed, and is exactly as shown in the photos on the website. Built around the 2 swimming pools, there is also a café/bar for light meals, although this does not seem to be open for breakfast or in the evening. The walk down to the beach in Puerto del Carmen takes about 15 minutes. There are taxis that can be used for the return journey. The information provided by the management in the apartment is very limited, and almost entirely negative. I have stayed in many hotels over 25 years when I was working, and I have never been told so little about the facilities. The television was not working when I arrived, and 2 staff members were unable to remedy that, so an expert had to be asked for (that is usually checked by the chambermaid before the room is ready for the next guest). Two reception staff could not tell me how deep the water is in the main swimming pool, and they had to make a telephone call to find out. The Wi-Fi in my apartment worked well, but another guest complained that he had not been able to get his emails during his stay. There was no written information in the apartment about the opening hours of the café/bar; nothing about the opening hours of the main swimming pool, or how deep the water is (which is a safety issue). Some information was available on the website, but guests should not have to ask the receptionists for basic information. The staff training needs improvement. I returned one day to find the kitchen window wide open (a security issue) and, as a result, I have a horsefly (el tabano) bite which, 4 days later, is the size of a Euro coin and still painful. I asked for a drying rack which other apartments had for wet swimming costumes and towels and, although it was promised, it did not arrive. I had a pizza in the café, which I enjoyed, but I had to ask the young man to give me a knife and fork to eat the pizza with! In summary, there are management issues at the Guinate Club - which can be easily remedied if the situation is approached from the guests' point of view.

These apartments were clean and well set out. They look nice and the pool area is lovely. Comfortable sunbeds and no rush to reserve one early morning. We booked to be close to family members for a special occasion. I don’t ever go self catering and did not use the facilities. We were only there 4 nights and it surprised me that the room was given a brief clean once for the stay maybe that is the policy. There is a nice atmosphere around the pool and bar area which is pleasant. The staff seemed friendly. TUI rate this as 3 star. The disappointment for me was that my flight was 18:45pm and I was unable to keep my room on. I was told no hotel is full. I think if the hotel is full and you don’t have a proper courtesy room with a shower and towels etc it’s not a good experience. I was told can use the disabled toilet to change. I think a courtesy room would be a better customer experience for the evening flights. If I went again I would make sure I had an early flight home. TUI should tell their guests about this as most holiday makers would assume a courtesy room was available as standard.
