“Fabulous!”

We spent a 4 night break at this quaint hotel. The setting is perfect for an out of the way retreat. A little English is spoken, our Spanish is almost non existent. We spent a 4 night break at this quaint hotel. The setting is perfect for an out of the way retreat. A little English is spoken, our Spanish is almost non existent. We were made very welcome and allocated a pleasant room overlooking the beautiful countryside. Small tip, if you can afford it upgrade to one of the upstairs rooms, they are beautiful. Breakfast is served in a lovely bright room again overlooking the countryside. The area is surrounded by magnificent beaches, the nearest 600m away. Hire a car and travel about a bit, so much to see and this area is real Spain, you need to make yourself understood as English is not prominent, We recommend the hotel thoroughly and thank the staff.

Let me get one minus out of the way. There are no coffee/tea making facilities in the room. That is the only problem I have with the place. Other than that. The rooms are stunning. Bit strange finding a full sized model cow in the lounge but that adds to the quirky side of things. As soon as you walk in the place you are greeted with a friendly smile and warm welcome. The room we stayed in was ample sized for a family or two couples. Free wifi in the rooms too which is always a bonus. 600 metres away is the beach, although you have to walk down to it. (mind the rocks that have fallen!) Just around the corner is a small cafe that serves lunches etc. Further down the road is Loredo where you can find another beach and plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. This place is a must if you want to get away from the typical tourist catering places and opt for a bit of authentic Spain.

We stayed for a week, and met with such kindness and helpfulness. The posada is small and lovely - many of the original features of the old farmhouse retained, and the rooms are clean, large and comfortable. We looked out over farmland at the back, and were fortunate enough to have brilliant weather during our stay - we had a small terrace with chairs, and could sit and sunbathe in peace and quiet, with a bottle to hand. The posada is on a headland, very rural, and is a short walk to two fabulous beaches. Both are accessed by flights of steps, so not for the fainthearted. There is also a lovely walk along the headlands of both bays. We drove 15km and then caught a small ferry over that bay to Santander, which is a lovely city, and well worth a visit - try the open top bus if the sun shines. There are a reasonable amount of restaurants in the area, some better than others - but enough not to have to go to the same one twice in a week. Fresh fish and seafood, of course, is excellent there. The one downside is breakfast - 7 days of exactly the same breakfast, every day, became a little boring, although the food was good and plenty of it. I would have killed for an egg by day 4! I Overall, though, it was a great experience, and we enjoyed our week there immensely.
