“Good value”

I stayed here for about a week and a half as part of a group. I liked this hotel a lot more than the reviews suggested I would. The rooms are large, clean, quiet and comfortable and have the traditional style. The staff were friendly, and the lobby is lovely. The only real downside of this hotel is that it is sort of in an out of the way area. About a quarter mile from the walled city and half a mile from the shopping of Nimman. It's next door to a crumbling, decaying mall and hotel. However, it's a great value for what it offers.

“Once upon a time”

I loved this hotel, but its best days are in the past. Hotel is need of a major renovation, but unfortunately, so is the surrounding neighborhood. Nice pool with lounge chairs that are falling apart. You get a taste of how wonderful this hotel was 30 years ago...

“Comfortable but very, very tired looking hotel”

Stayed here with family during Songkran. We had two adjoining rooms. The front lobby was clean and very pleasing to the eye. The rooms and the corridors are very tired indeed. Stayed here with family during Songkran. We had two adjoining rooms. The front lobby was clean and very pleasing to the eye. The rooms and the corridors are very tired indeed. The bathroom needed a total refurb but the shower was very good. The beds were very comfortable and had good sleep the 4 nights we were there. The pool area is also very tired. Only used the pool once and that was enough. Breakfast was available but we did not partake. There is also a Chinese restaurant at the hotel but we were shocked as to how expensive it was compared to the food available outside the hotel. All in all a good base for exploring Chiang Mai and the surrounding areas but don't expect 5 star quality.

“Check in problems”

We stayed for 2 separate nights and hence two check-ins... Both were problematic. On first arrival we were given an already occupied room ( thankfully no one was there at that moment), went to reception again and new room given- room was with 2 single beds. Went again to reception and had it change… more

We stayed for 2 separate nights and hence two check-ins... Both were problematic. On first arrival we were given an already occupied room ( thankfully no one was there at that moment), went to reception again and new room given- room was with 2 single beds. Went again to reception and had it changed for third time. In the room there were noises from works upstairs that coul be heard, but did not have the energy to change it for the 4th time. Room is old fashioned and needs upgrading. From the doors that enable interconnecting rooms you can hear everything, literally everything (you can imagine what i am referring to 😉). On second check-in we had problems at check-in again, thankfully the person who served us on first instance came for her shift just in time and helped the receptionist solve the matter. Breakfast has variety but if you are foreigner you are a bit limited.

We stayed for just one night at Chiang Mai Orchid hotel on our way north. The hotel is a traditional, older hotel but comfortable enough for a short stay. The lobby was large and had a bar (closed unfortunately), and to access the restaurant you needed to go outside. The room was adequately sized, had a king bed, and 3 towels/person - a real luxury given that so many Thai hotels we stayed in gave us just one. There was even a functional hairdryer! The WiFi was pretty good and it was close to a very nice Mexican restaurant - The Salsa Kitchen. The hotel definitely needs updating but it was fine for one night.
