We had a 4 night stay here in Isty Hotel. I will review different elements of the hotel. Room: We had a standard double room. The bed was very hard and not that comfortable. However the room was spacious and cleaned daily. The room also had a safe. Food: We had breakfast on two mornings. One morning we had pancakes and then another morning we had omelettes/french toast. The food was good and reasonably priced. There was also lots of tea/coffee/apple juice/orange juice which was complementary. Staff: We had an issue with two young male members of staff who entered our room whilst one of us was on our own. There was no knock or doorbell, which was a shock, especially as it was a female alone in the room. It transpired that they had lost a phone, but the upsetting part was that they stood beside our safe. We had no issue opening the safe and showing the contents, but this raised many questions: why were you on your phone in our room? Why did you assume it was in our safe? Why enter our room without any knock? This incident really made us doubt the level of privacy we had. I raised this with the manager, and the member of staff did apologise. We were later informed by reception staff that the phone was found in another room, again raising the question of why staff are using phones in guests’ rooms. Pool area: The pool are is nice and clean. It’s quite small however it is very shaded and only certain areas of the pool only get sun between 10am-2pm. It would be more ideal if the pool was on the roof area. The roof area is nice with bean bags/chairs however the bar did not seem to function. Location: convenient location.

We had an okay stay at the Isty Hotel. The staff were genuinely lovely — so friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help. However, the hotel itself could use a bit of maintenance and updating. Our room felt a little run down. The fridge leaked water while we were out during the day. The bathroom was tiny, and the shower was quite rusty with only lukewarm water. It was also positioned very close to the toilet, so the bathroom floor ended up flooded after every shower. The bed was quite hard too, which made the stay a bit uncomfortable. The room did have a window, but it was completely covered by bushes outside, so we had very little natural light coming in. On top of that, the curtains didn’t close properly, so the small bit of light that did come through would wake us early in the morning. The pool area was quite small with only a few loungers, and it always looked busy because of the limited space. We didn’t use it for that reason, which was a little disappointing. On a more positive side, the room was cleaned daily by the housekeeping staff, which we really appreciated. The hotel was also very reasonably priced — we paid only €80 (total) for 3 nights. The location was convenient too; a short taxi ride got us anywhere we wanted to go in Chiang Mai with ease. Overall, the staff and location were good, but the room itself could definitely use some improvements.

Nice pool but shaded from the sun most of the day. Not very helpful staff-upon checking in, we found the allocated room (ground floor) to smell very strongly of damp-presumably because of the close proximity to the pool combined with the heat and no mechanism to deal with the creation of damp. Whilst the reception team showed us other ground floor rooms, we found they all smelt badly of damp due to the same issue I suppose. With limited time in Thailand, we explained that we didn’t want to get ill from the damp and were offered to upgrade as long as we paid. We considered it a basic expectation for the room we’d paid for to not smell like damp but eventually managed to negotiate to one free night on the second floor whilst they cleaned the room downstairs to ‘fix the problem’ although reception admitted the damp smell-they wanted desperately for us to go back into the damp room. We were then looked out of our room the next day even though we informed them that we were on a day trip that day so would talk to them when we were back as they wanted us to go back into another damp room (all ground floor rooms we saw smelt the same). Eventually we agreed to pay for the upgrade to the non damp room which was fine on the first floor but in our opinion, this should have been free. Not that helpful staff.
