I chose this hotel for: 1. The unbeatable price for recently refurbished rooms Cheapest rooms go for as low as about 750 Baht per night including a simple buffet breakfast. I picked a more expensive category, the Premier King, which seems to be located on the 6th floor only (no significant differences from the cheaper rooms, really, other than the cute circular window and the higher floor). Room has all the essentials: hairdryer, minibar, safe, kettle, bottled water, bedroom slippers, TV (no Web browser or Netflix), basic toiletries and even a clothes steamer! Everything worked fine and I was impressed that at such low rates, the hotel’s maintenance was pretty good – room was very clean, no foul smell or insects and bed and towels are fresh and new. 2. Location It took me about 10 to 15 minutes to walk leisurely to the nearest 7-11 shop, Old Bus Terminal, the Night bazaar and Clock Tower. The hotel is not immediately visible from the main road as it is behind a row of shops and I like that this keeps traffic noise and pollution to a minimum. Within easy walking distance are also some beautiful temples and cheap restaurants so this is a big positive to me. Things that you may not like: 1. Breakfast Breakfast room is only cooled by fans so it’s not a very comfortable dining experience when you travel during the hotter months. Buffet spread is basic, with the usual sliced bread, jam, sausage, fried egg and some salad. Only about 3-4 hot dishes which consisted of noodles, rice and some stir-fried vegetables/meat. The coffee is terrible – no aroma and lacks the taste of good quality coffee. Not a great start to the day but at least they filled my stomach…! : ) If you need something more substantial, just skip it and get your fill elsewhere. 2. Old toilet and shower room They look dated and quite an eye-sore to me, though they are kept clean (thankfully). Apparently the hotel management didn’t include the toilet/shower room during their room renovation. 3. Poor noise insulation If you’re easily disturbed by noise, beware that insulation is poor so you do hear noise coming from the corridor (loud guests/housekeepers). Ultimately, to be realistic, at such low prices, I’m not too bothered with the few negatives. The inexpensive, clean, renovated room at a fairly convenient location is good enough for me for a short stay.

We stayed at Space Hotel for two nights and overall had a pleasant experience. The location is excellent – just a 15-minute walk to the centre of Chiang Rai and about 10 minutes to the bus station, which was very convenient for continuing our travels. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Our booking included a complimentary breakfast with plenty of options, such as toast, mini pancakes, fried rice, noodles, cereals, eggs, and sausages – a good variety to suit most tastes, even for picky eaters. We also made use of the gym facilities. While it was nice to have access, the lack of air conditioning made it a bit uncomfortable for workouts. Our main drawback was the room cleanliness. Although the bedsheets and towels were spotless, the bathroom and floors could have been given more attention. Overall, Space Hotel is in a great location with helpful staff and a generous breakfast. With some improvements in room cleanliness and gym comfort, it could be an excellent choice for all kinds of travelers.

The Space Hotel >> excellent hotel for the price we paid and its location 👍🏻 I was really impressed about how good the location of this place was for the money we paid. We only spent 1 night in Chiang Rai, as I badly wanted to see the White and the Blue Temple but this 18$/night with breakfast (even though poor one) included helped keep our hotel budget low. Another amazing thing is how close this hotel is to the bus station. So if you are like us, flying in Chiang Rai and then taking the bus to Chiang Mai, The Space Hotel is the place for you. The room was slightly old but very clean and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Also we appreciated the fact that we could check in at 9 AM. 👎🏻 The breakfast could have a slightly higher variation but considering the price we paid, it was good. Be aware that for certain rooms you might be charged for using the hair dryer or the kettle!
