The hotel is situated in a good location on the beach where the breakfast is served in front of the sea. There are 3 pools and lovely gardens with plenty of sun beds. Rooms were large and modern. The large bathroom had both bath and shower plus 2 sinks with quality shampoos and shower gel. The room also had very good storage facilities and bath robes/slippers etc. Beds are large and comfy and the cleaning maids did a wonderful job keeping the sheets fresh and changed most days. The hotel reception staff were wonderful too and very professional and could not do enough for you. Breakfast was varied and good quality. There was a separate egg station and you could even get Thai teas there too. The restaurant had the normal cold and hot buffet choices in the main restaurant. The front pool had a swim up bar and comfy seating and cocktails could be enjoyed at happy hour time. The hotel also does barbecue on the beach each night. It’s situated about 5 minutes from walking street and not too far from the pier. The hotel also arrange to take you to the pier when you leave which is another added bonus.

A wonderful stay in a perfect location near the arrival jetty and just steps from the beach. The food was consistently delicious with great variety, the rooms were modern, spotless, and spacious, and the staff’s hospitality truly made our experience special Only negative would be the reservation of sun beds around the pool and facing the sea. I’m an early riser and I was going for breakfast for 7am and already most of the sun beds had towels placed on them with some not being occupied until gone 10am. I feel the hotel need to monitor this better to allow others to use the beds that have towels on but are not occupied for hours.

“Not as good as previous visits”

This was our third visit over five years and we stayed for seven nights. Our room was on the upper floor in the first block overlooking the pool. This was our third visit over five years and we stayed for seven nights. Our room was on the upper floor in the first block overlooking the pool. Room did appear to have benefitted from some refurbishment but not sure if the bed base is just too big or the mattress is smaller than intended. Getting in and out of bed involves a bit of a stretch to get your feet on the floor but a minor issue. The remainder of the room was ok, good size, great bathroom with all amenities. The room does come with a stocked minibar (chargeable) but we just moved everything to the bottom and purchased our own items. Based on our previous visits, we were looking forward to breakfast however, on this occasion, we found it to be slightly less than average. Please stop frying eggs and placing them on a cold plate. Who wants cold fried eggs! Bar staff and others were kind and helpful. Some parts of the grounds and pool areas were looking a bit dated and worn and would also benefit from some refurbishment but again, there wasn’t anything that would spoil your stay. We did have an altercation with another guest where the hotel management let us down very badly. In brief, we identified 2 sun beds by the main pool at the beachside. We were down around 7ish, identified beds with nothing on them, no pre-booked towels etc and sat with our towels and other items for an hour or so, enjoying the early morning calmness before having breakfast and returning 20-30 mins later to settle down for the day. At about 10am, a man approached us and insisted we were on ‘his’ beds. We politely indicated that we had been there since around 7am, nothing was on the beds therefore we weren’t sure how the beds could belong to him. He became rude and aggressive and threatening. He left and a few minutes later returned with 2 hotel staff who asked us to leave the beds. It was very clear that the man wasn’t going to leave us alone and if we had insisted we stay, the situation was only going to worsen. We left but were asked our room number, clearly to provide us with some form of drink voucher or similar but we declined. We found the entire situation incredible. We have never witnessed anyone becoming so incensed about a sun bed (a number of others were available) but more so, we have never experienced staff not managing what we felt was a relatively straightforward situation. Even if someone had placed a towel, or on this occasion apparently a book, before we got there at 7ish, the hotel policy and signage is clear, towels or other items with no show after 30 minutes will be removed. Why then did the hotel staff ask us to move - incredible. Unfortunately, this experience did leave us feeling dissatisfied with the overall stay and sadly, we will not return to Akira. Ko Lipe itself still has lots to offer but at times it just feels too busy and has lost a lot of its wow factor.
