I booked Panvaree Resort directly through their website, and the process was very easy. The resort arranged a taxi from Khao Lak to the meeting point. It was definitely convenient and comfortable, although I suspect I could have found a cheaper option on my own. Our guide was excellent, as were all the staff we met. We stayed for one night. The journey from the pier to the resort took around 40 minutes on a typical longtail boat — not the most comfortable, but the scenery was absolutely stunning. The location of the resort itself is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. When we arrived, we had lunch and checked into our room, which was very clean and had everything we needed. The room is dated, but the air conditioning worked well. I did wonder where the water came from and the sewerage was removed to as the ehole thing is floating. There’s no electricity until after 6pm, but this wasn’t a problem, we could charge a phone. We went for a swim in the lake, which was lovely, though the water was rough at times. Also try not to get the water in your mouth you can get various illnesses from lake water, as my family member did. I’d advise caution if you’re not a strong swimmer, as there are no lifeguards. There is a designated swimming area, but you do need to watch out for tree trunks under the water. Kayaks are also available to hire. The evening boat trip was brilliant — we saw monkeys and squirrels and took some fantastic photos. Dinner afterwards was amazing. It was all Thai food with no menu choices, but everything was fresh and delicious. Once it got dark, we could see the stars clearly and hear the frogs calling, which was a really special experience. The boat trip the following morning was similar to the one the night before, but still enjoyable. After that, we had a tasty breakfast before checking out and heading back to the pier. I’m glad we only stayed one night, though. I didn’t sleep at all because the bed was very hard, and the movement of the floating room made me feel a bit seasick. I also didn’t enjoy walking between the main restaurant and our room, especially after dark — the walkway wobbled a lot, there was no handrail, and it didn’t feel very safe. This resort is definitely not suitable for anyone with poor mobility, as getting in and out of the longtail boat is tricky and walking around the resort can be challenging. Overall, it was a once‑in‑a‑lifetime experience, but I was relieved to get back onto solid ground.
