“Nice place”

I stayed there for three nights in Sept.. The room was nice. The bathroom, which I care a lot, was spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet had many choices and well prepared. It was about 15min drive to the famous sunrise observation village Beiqi.

We spent five nights at this hotel using it as the base visiting various scenic places around XiaPu. The hotel has a decent hall but the room (upgraded) was fantastic - spacious and clean. We were impressed by the service, on our day of arrival in the afternoon, dessert was served with a fruit platter. And we had that throughout our stay. We asked for a non smoking room and boy, didn't have cigarette odor throughout! For those visited China tier 3 or 4 cities, you know it is a rarity especially at a local brand hotel. Hotel is lifated near Walmart and also the famous seafood Hawking street, so there are plenty of options for food and also other form of activities For those visiting Xiapu, I highly recommend this hotel! Note : we were there taking photos. This place is reputed for it photogenic scenery.

“Decent, centrally located hotel”

This is a fairly good hotel given the obscurity of this little city on the northern fringes of Fujian Province on China's eastern seaboard. A favourite of photographers, this has all the trappings of an international hotel, albeit a little cigarette-smoky (it is China after all!), and the outside windows could do with a thorough clean. The beds, linens and towels are as clean as any five-star hotel. The hotel rooms were designed on what must be a template for high-end hotels these days, near identical to any hotel you might stay in at the likes of Macau (China's richer, imitation Las Vegas for those unfamiliar). The cleaners could probably work the elbow grease ever-so-slightly more too - but no real complaints either. Location wise, this was ideal for us. The hotel is located on the nicer side of the city. There is a Walmart and McDonald's one block away; and it is just off a major road (Funing Road) near the Xiapu City museum, which provides a valuable landmark to find your way around. More importantly, two buses (bus no. 32 and no. 8) cross Funing Road on their way from the Xiapu Train Station to the local long distance bus terminus at the top of LongShou Road. At only RMB1.00 per person, this is a much cheaper alternative than the RMB20 charged by taxi drivers. Now, before you scoff at my penny pinching behaviour, I understand that this may seem insignificant, but you will be blowing hundreds of Chinese RMB every day for transport otherwise. Trust me, the bus terminus is your friend! From the bus terminus, you will be able to get to all the major photography spots at a fraction of the cost of a driver. The only caveat is that you cannot avoid hiring a driver for those sunrise shots. But more on this in another post.
