The hotel is within the Changbaishan Wanda Ski Resort. This is the only one that provides with family style suites. Our suite is equipped with a large living room in the middle, two bedrooms on each side, and a balcony in each bedroom. It is big enough for 4 people staying together comfortably. There are plenty local restaurants downstairs, and the ski rental center and the hot spring facility is only few minutes away by walking. However, the front desk service needs improvement. The lady forgot to give me the room keys after I checked in. In addition, you need to take a 3 minutes shuttle bus to breakfast, because the hotel restaurants are in another Holiday Inn building. Overall, we had a great time there.

“International hotel far from a city”

Modern, international hotel, situated near the Changbaishan mountain. Some English speaking staff. Comfortable, clean with all amenities expected by western tourists. Modern room and bathroom, comfortable bed.

Nice hotel with lovely warm rooms (temp and atmosphere) and a good spread at breakfast that served to satisfy both Chinese and Western appetites. The beds were also comfortable which is not always the case in China. The skiing was good but lacked variety for beginners. Only three green runs (Euro blue) were available so it got a bit boring for some of the family. Also, the black and blue (Euro red) runs get so cut up by snowboarders, they need a snow cat running over them more frequently to stop them becoming hazardous. As part of the stay you get to use the hot springs once and the water park each day, but the water park wasn’t much use for a young family (nine years old) as kids under 50kg are not allowed on the slides. All the adults and teens were having a great time, but unless obese, the younger kids were bored. All in all it was a good stay, but much room for improvement in terms of skiing for beginners and “The water park sucked” (my kids words).

Truthfully I was never that impressed to begin with and they’re certainly not doing anything to correct that so maybe next visit will find us at the Hyatt across the street instead 1st the checkin debacle takes FOREVER. They have issues with their other services providers. Namely the HannahShan Hot Spring nearby, access to which is supposed to be free of charge but in order to sort out the paper work you as the customer are supposed to traipse back and forth across the lobby to get this or that paper signed and stamped. And that’s not the end of it because later when you actually go to the Hot Spring you have to do more of it. Talk about a major hassle. Customer service at its worst The room itself is nice enough if a little bit bare. We had a two bedroom suite that we shared with another couple. The main problem with the rooms are as such: The curtains in the bigger of the two bedrooms where we slept cannot be closed all the way. There is a gap at the top that ends up leaving a lot of space for like to come in and wake you up before you’re ready to be woken up. There is a shower stall in the smaller bathroom which is good but the bigger bedroom is left with the bathtub with the shower head. And this is really annoying when you want to take a shower and you have to climb into a bathtub and then it’s so close inside (and I’m not a big guy) you cannot take a shower without always rubbing up against the shower curtain. Poor painting job. Room was painted very sloppily in many places it’s just ugly to look at how they painted the walls. Major peeve >> Heating Like so many hotels in China the climate controls are basically only there for decoration. You as a customer have very little to no control over the temperature of your room. We got to the room and like so often happens it was roasting hot. So we selected a lower temp on the thermostat and wouldn’t you know it instead of going down the temp continued upwards. In the end after trying many things we managed to just shut it off completely and open the windows to cool things down to a livable temp. This is such a waste. So many hotels in China do the same thing, a disgusting waste of energy. And they’ve the nerve to say they are being “green” by encouraging people to reuse their towels. Lastly, Breakfast is served in only one of the three towers and if you have a room In either of the other ones you can look forward to a nice freezing cold walk during winter to get your breakfast in the morning. It’s less than pleasant to have to bundle up to brave the -25° temperature and walk quite a distance to have your morning meal in an over crowded noisy restaurant. Anyway, we’ve been here many times before but now there’s more choices of hotels so...
