“Great value for money”

Had a business trip to Panjin and stayed only one night. Friendly staff and more than ok breakfast and rooms at surely a dissent quality. The price was a very positive surprise. I enjoyed the little time I had in this hotel

This, by all accounts, is as good as it gets for hotels in Panjin and, by Chinese standards, it’s a decent place to stay. Relatively new (ca. 4 years) and located on the edge of downtown Panjin, it’s within easy strike of most things the town has to offer and if your interests lay in the coastal scenic areas then they’re all some way out of town anyway. The good: our superior twin room was comfortable, quiet and adequately roomy without being altogether spacious. Everything expected was there and it mostly (see below) worked as expected. The beds were comfortable and the linens fresh and clean. The bathroom was well appointed and the shower stall was as big as a barn. We had a nice outlook west from the 12th floor over this modern high-rise city. The included breakfast buffet was better than most Holiday Inns in the West although you need to arrive early to make the most of it because they seem to be reluctant to replenish it. The included wifi worked well on all our devices. There’s a selection of quite reasonable restaurants in the adjoining mall. The not so good: no surprises for regular Chinese hotel guests here: rough finishes and even rougher repairs necessitate applying a soft focus to the fittings and furnishings. The usual compliment of things that don’t work well – or at all: a lighted bathroom mirror that has evidently resisted numerous spectacularly botched attempts to fix it and a power outlet for the kettle that worked intermittently and then not at all. Soiling on the carpet that belies the hotel’s relative youth. A night-light in the corridor that has been installed opposite a wall mirror transforming it into a spotlight into the sleeping quarters – doh! The annoying: common to many Chinese hotels, the air-conditioning has a neat little control panel that lets you fiddle with the environmental settings to your heat’s content but, in the end, the outcome is whatever has been decided by a higher authority. At least you can open the window and Panjin’s air is clean and the town is quiet. We'd come back.

I spent 5 nights at Holiday Inn Aqua Panjon, which was slightly better than expected. Room and bathroom were clean. The room service were timely and always did a good job, no complaints whatsoever. As with regard to breakfast you can get an average westren breakfast, you can't go wrong with the omelette. The hotel is adjoined by a shopping mall which is quite convenient during Panjin cold winter evenings. Overall, not the best hotel I have been to, but it is reasonably fine and comfortable for your average business trip.
