Easy to find in a small village on the outskirts of Bethune. We stayed here on our 1st and last nights our a recent trip. There is plenty of free car parking within the immaculate grounds. It s worth taking the time to have a little wander in the gardens. The rooms are very large, comfortable and well appointed. There are 3 restaurants to choose from on site.

“Wonderful hotel, terrible food”

We have stayed before and were pleased to be taken back at the start of our journey into France. We were upgraded to rooms in the castle which were large and well equipped. We had booked an evening meal on our outward jouney, but warning signs appeared at check-in where one person was left to deal with a party of 36, plus preparing un-made rooms and later running the bar. We arrived at the restaurant at 7pm and placed our order for wine and food. After half an hour we were delivered a bottle of water and after another half-hour asked where our wine was.asked where our wine was , which arrived in a plastic bucket of tepid water (no ice). Ten minutes later we saw a couple who had arrived a long time after us served their meal. Asking where our food was we were told "five minutes". What arrived was truly appalling. My "prawn risotto" consisted of a small heap of barely cooked rice with four small prawns. My wife's veal and tagliatelle was a lump of flavourless, un-sauced meat in a little liquid. At least the pasta was acceptable. By then we had lost the will to eat and left most of what had been served. I saw the person in charge and told them in no uncertain terms that they and the kitchen should be ashamed of themselves. no apology was offered only "that is how we cook it here". Had we not be ben part of a large group I would have withheld most of nearly 100 euros cost. Fortunately most other diners from our group were reasonably satisfied with their meals. A pleasant evening in the bar and a delay in writng this review have not diminshed the disgust that we both feel with what we were served.

This was just a quick overnight stop on the way to the tunnel. First impressions were very poor and after 8 hours driving I was not in the mood for this. We entered the hotel complex that appears to be the converted outbuildings of the chateau. Once in the car park there is no obvious reception. We drove round the complex about 4 times vainly looking for the reception ( it is in fact outside on the road but anyone arriving here will have come into the courtyard by car ). Eventually we saw a door marked Sortie which I decided to investigate and it was in fact the reception. Guess that! Reception closed, but a paper on the door said to phone. First number doesn’t actually exist, second worked and it turns out you need to go to the reception of the chateau hotel next door (privately owned). Off we go. The reception agreed with me that the system was mad and dealt well with my anger at all this messing about. Why wasn’t this in in my booking confirmation mail? Finally in the room - huge comfortable suite with best lit bathroom I have seen in an hotel in ages. Easy for once to do my makeup. Difficult to get out of the bath/shower without slipping and nothing to get hold of. Unfortunately there is a pervasive unpleasant smell in the room which even with a good airing didn’t go away. It disturbed me in the night. Comfortable bed. Breakfast in the chateau was excellent. Reception staff there very pleasant. There were 3 on site restaurants to choose from. We ate in La Distillerie and had an excellent dinner in a nice environment, served by friendly, efficient staff. As for the complaints on here from some customers about the noise of ducks, chickens etc from the farmyard next door!! Love it.
