“Charming and well maintained”

Hotel des Iris is a small and charming hotel in the center of Auvers sur Oise. Beautiful and immaculately clean rooms with nice details, excellent service and extremely nice breakfast. The opening hours of the reception are limited, but everything works well also when arriving after hours.

My husband and I stayed (for one night), prior to our niece's wedding in Auvers, the following day. The room was very nice - spacious and, although on the street, no noise disturbed us (except for a rather loud thunderstorm that night!) The bed was very comfortable and kingsized. Amenities for making tea and coffee were available in the room. The ensuite bathroom was likewise spacious, including a large soaking tub and a very elegant shower enclosure. The rooms are decorated with a theme of Vincent Van Gogh (who died in Auvers). There was a pleasant outdoor space for eating and drinking or just gathering with friends and fellow guests. A Continental breakfast was offered at an additional cost. Very elegant and plentiful, with eggs prepared three ways, if you wish. The staff, including the owner, were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel offers all sorts of brochures on activities to do in and around Auvers. The hotel is centrally situated on the main street of Auvers (Rue General de Gaulle). Very close (within walking distance) of several restaurants - we recommend Au Verre du Vin, just up the street from the hotel. There are several other good places to eat or just sit and have a coffee. Since this town is where Van Gogh spent the last months of his life, there are all sorts of places you can go to see where he painted particular scenes. He is buried in the local cemetery alongside his brother Theo. We highly recommend this delightful and charming hotel in a particularly interesting and historical little town, north west of Paris.

Our stay at Hotel de Iris was absolutely wonderful. The hotel is beautiful and it is located within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and - most important to us - the Van Gogh attractions. We were given a room upgrade by the friendly proprietor and she made us feel very welcome. We had breakfast each morning in the hotel and the food was varied and delicious (bread, croissants, yogurt, fruit, nuts, juice, coffee and more). I strongly recommend staying in this lovely hotel in this quaint village in France. We will always appreciate and remember our time there.

This is a lovely hotel but if you don't speak French, take note. When we arrived the front door was locked with a note in French saying the access was through the alley in the back which I was able to figure out with my high school french. Unfortunately, the email with the code to the back gate had been put in my SPAM file and I hadn't found it. We tried calling the phone number but no-one answered. We were lucky that another guest came by (right before we panicked) and opened the door for us. To his credit, he checked that my name matched the envelope awaiting us inside with our room key. After the shaky start, everything was quite nice. This hotel is well located for the drive to Charles de Gaulle aiport, less than an hour away. We stayed the night before our departure in the spacious Junior Suite with the wonderful Van Gogh starry night wall paper. It's on the first floor so no stairs to climb with luggage. It also has a semi-private patio space where we enjoyed our last bottle of french wine. For those of us who are not fluent in English, be aware that all correspondence is in French. The nice lady who checked us out in the morning was the only employee we saw and spoke no English. It's an easy walk to Van Gogh's grave and there's a grocery store right down the street. We didn't have breakfast so no comment there. I would recommend this nice hotel.
