“Great campsite in the Gorges de Verdon”

We stayed here for two nights in July 2017 and can recommend the site highly. Friendly and helpful staff, excellent toilets and showers along with bar area, swimming pool and pizzeria. Wifi was available but expensive.

Let me say that RCN Les Collines de Castellane is just a good campsite and absolutely no bad choice as a holiday destination. But is good enough in this time ... If I asked thé marketing question whether I would recommend this campsite then the answer is unfortunately no. I will explain why. Part of my final judgment is based on something that the campsite has limited influence on. And that is the fact that the campsite is build on terraces. Everything is concentrated at the top of the hill. Supermarket, pool, reception and even the garbage disposal. Personally, It did not contribute to the holiday feeling that I had to go up the hill every time. Our mobile home was somewhere in the middle. Nice spot with space for the car. The caravan was clean and looked excellent. Further more the camp site cared for and clean. A request at the reception desk (broken wine glass) is picked up immediately. We also got some good advice from the reception about the area and activities. Canyoning booked through the reception was also fine. Why not a recommendation with a disclaimer from the hill? A few cases. First of all, the lack of organization at the terrace. We had to wait very long before our order was taken and for checkout. We sat on the terrace one evening from 19:00 to 22:30 and only had a cup of coffee and one other drink. We eventually ordered the coffee directly at the bar. The waitresses are sweet girls but they all walked around like a chicken without a head. That is not beneficial for both parties. I would have liked another drink and the campsite could have increased the turnover. It also helps if you get the right bill ... Room for improvement there. The owners could be more visible too. What struck us more was that in our last week (week 5 of the school holidays region north and still high season) the campsite was already closed to our feelings. Bread only on order, changed opening hours, no snacks anymore in the afternoon. No live music anymore on Wednesday evening, bar closed at 22:00, circus for the children canceled. It started to look like a haunted camp. But we did pay the high season rate, so I also expect that all "high season" facilities are available. Small point but for our son something more important was that the climbing park was only open Wednesday and Sunday evenings and also costs money. Maybe logical, but it is not mentioned in the leaflets. What was a unique selling point for this campsite for our kids therefore ended up a bit as a disappointment . When we drove route de cretes we encountered several campsites directly on a flowing river where the kids can swim and build dams as well as have a nice swimming pool. If you look at a campsite in the Gorge du Verdon area, look here also. We have had a wonderful holiday and the campsite has definitely contributed to this. But we are not so excited about RCN Les Collines de Castellane as we were last year about RCN Le Moulin de la Pique. nb. we stayed fro 14 nights in a mobile home place no 76 with two adults and our sons of 9 and 5 years old

“Chilled vibe with breath taking scenery”

This campsite is set on a hillside in beautiful scenery. We had a mobile home that was the furthest that you could be from the reception area. The downside is that it was a very steep walk to the pool but the upside was being able to sit outside the mobile home and admire the mountains on all side.… more

This campsite is set on a hillside in beautiful scenery. We had a mobile home that was the furthest that you could be from the reception area. The downside is that it was a very steep walk to the pool but the upside was being able to sit outside the mobile home and admire the mountains on all side. As you can probably tell, this is not a campsite for anyone with walking difficulties and I could imagine younger children finding the walk tough. On the positive side, there were kids out playing each night in front of the mobiles so it's probably ideally suited to families with younger children. That said, our teenagers enjoyed their stay too. As other reviews have noted, this is a Dutch-run campsite and the majority of campers were from the Netherlands. For us this wasn't a problem as our teenagers are past the age of going to kids' entertainment etc. All the staff spoke very good English and most appeared to speak some French. The staff on site were always friendly, helpful and professional. The pool area was very attractive and super clean (surprising as this is the only campsite I've been to where people openly ate on the poolside). I wasn't sure to what extent it was heated as it was certainly icy cold on some days. In fairness the same thing happened on our other campsite when the temperature dropped at night and that was definitely heated. We ordered pizza a couple of times and it was pretty good but we didn't eat in the restaurant really. We'd often choose to eat lunch in a campsite restaurant, rather than dinner but at lunchtime all the staff sat down together to eat and it felt almost like it would be rude to disturb them. Similarly, the shop closed between 12 and 2 (just as we'd want to buy something) so we tended to stock up in the Casino in Castellane. The mobile homes were clean and had all the basic equipment. Bear in mind that this is a mountain campsite so it did get pretty cool some nights. There are plenty of activity spaces such as football/ping ping and tennis courts. I would definitely recommend this campsite if you enjoy friendly small campsites. We would be very tempted to return here.
