This was my second stay at the Rotes Haus in Ueberlingen and one I was not only looking forward to but one I immensely enjoyed again. Check in was swift and friendly and I found my room clean and fully functional. Tea and coffee making facilities were available as was a large bottle of sparkling mineral water. A drink dispenser is available on the ground floor for guests who need an extra ration of water. Hot water came from the taps without much delay, the water pressure was strong and WiFi kicked in the moment the password was entered - at constant high speed for that matter. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast again, a wide variety of cold cuts and cheeses which should put some of the fancied hotels I stayed in more recently during my travels across Africa to shame! Definitely returning next year when Ueberlingen is host city to the State Garden Fair and definitely once again booking early, because like last year, the hotel was absolutely full the nights we - my sister and I - stayed this time. Again, the Rotes Haus comes highly recommended. Special thanks to the breakfast team who were engaged, took time to chat with me and shared some Ueberlingen episodes of the recent past before the dining room got busy.

Check at Rotes Haus was swift and after clearing up that we had ordered two single rooms and not a twin - the booking was done online - was the bill raised and we paid. There is what appears to be a tourism tax of 2 Euros per person, not mentioned in advance but payable anyway. The money is not a big deal but an upfront information would provide clarity to guests before they arrive. My room was located on the first floor - there is a ground floor and second floor too - and being a B&B one carries one's own bags. Traveling light helps though there is an elevator for guests staying for longer and bringing more luggage. The room proved bright, again in the predominant colours of white and red. I found two single beds forming a 'single single twin', each wide enough to sleep comfortably. The wardrobe was of sufficient size, including enough hangers, the large flat screen TV remained untouched but the tea making facilities and the sparkling water were most welcome. The bathroom was on the small side but that poised no problem as all elements needed, shower, soap dispenser, towels, hair dryer and all were fitted into the space, as the pictures will demonstrate. The room was absolutely clean and the bed and pillow quality better than hoped for. WiFi kicked in the moment the sign up code was entered, which was offered together with the key on check in. There are a number of good quality restaurants within 10 or 15 minutes walk down towards the lake - the hotel is located rather higher up - worth the walk both ways. What was very impressive was the breakfast set up - the pictures will show just what large choices guests have and the service by the waitress on duty was absolutely charming, friendly and professional. The morning receptionist, with whom we checked out, was more inclined to have a chat with us and share some information compared to her colleague who checked us in. Overall a very pleasant experience and definitely a place to be recommended to other travelers visiting this part of Lake Konstanz. Would I return to the Red House aka Rotes Haus? Absolutely YES ...

“Corona Alert: Hotel is fine but don’t do breakfast here!”

We were biking through Überlingen without e-bikes; after a very long day of hills adding one more was rough but we were happy to find a secure bike garage and the room basic but comfortable. We would consider staying again but our cautionary note is to find breakfast elsewhere!! We were crowded into a small area in the basement with little air movement and while many people had masks those that didn’t weren’t asked to put one on or leave.
