This is a very well run hotel by an Italian couple. We went with two of our German friends from a village near Landsberg am Lech! They pre-arranged with the hotelier to provide menus in English for our benefit during our stay. The area around Zwiesel to my mind is better than that of the Black Forest - i.e. more trees.

We stayed here while travelling back to the UK from Romania, and although the location looked promising and the layout was convenient—especially as we were travelling with an elderly family member—the overall experience was extremely frustrating due to poor communication and organisation. When we arrived, we asked if the restaurant was open as we were hungry and quite far from anywhere else. We were initially told it was open, but it quickly became clear it was drinks only. Even then, the situation was confusing—one minute we were told we could relax, and the next we were asked to pay immediately, making us feel rushed out. We ended up finishing our drinks quickly and going to bed without food. On the way to the room, there were multiple unexpected steps in odd places, which felt unnecessary and unsafe. I personally tripped several times—this could be especially dangerous for older guests. The next morning, we were told breakfast started at 7:00am. We arrived on time only to wait around and then realise it actually started at 7:30am. When we returned, we were told most tables were reserved and we couldn’t sit at them—yet nearly all of those reserved tables remained empty. This made no sense and caused unnecessary inconvenience. Another issue was access to the building. We went to the car to collect bags, but no one had explained that the key was required to re-enter. We ended up locked out for around 20 minutes, worried about our elderly family member still inside. This could have easily been avoided with proper communication. Overall, the biggest issue here is inconsistency and lack of clear communication. Staff gave conflicting information, and basic details—like meal times and access—were not properly explained. If breakfast is at 7:30am, then guests should be told 7:30am, not 7:00am. These may seem like small issues individually, but together they created a very stressful and disappointing stay. Overall, it’s a good place to stay, but it is seriously lacking in communication.
