We were driving home from a holiday in Bohemia and were just looking for somewhere to stay overnight. Duren is not really on the tourist trail and when you visit the place you can see why, but it is very well located for an overnight stay when travelling. It has little to offer although it is entirely adequate for an overnight stopover. With all this in mind, we arrived at the Durens Posthotel, which we had chosen on the basis of price. We were very pleasantly surprised. Service at the reception was friendly and efficient and we were delighted to be told that we had been allocated the "suite" at the top of the hotel. It wasn't so much a suite but rather a large attic room and an enormous bathroom. We felt that you could probably achieve your 10,000 steps a day by simply walking to and from the bathroom a few times! Wifi was provided and worked well. Decor was okay but the window blinds were not of the blackout type. Outdoor parking is available but they have a garage for which they charge 9Euros 50 a night. We had a lot of stuff in the car and preferred the added security that this brought. Sadly and presumably due to Covid, the hotel bar and restaurant were not open on the evening that we arrived so we went for a walk in the town (the hotel is fairly centrally located) to find a restaurant. We ate at La Taverna restaurant which was superb and we will review separately. There was a large vending machine in the stairwell and amongst other things, it dispensed beer. A group of other residents were enjoying a few bottles on the terrace outside. Breakfast was adequate for content but superb for service. The young lad looking after the breakfast service was charming. He spoke excellent English and told us just how much he enjoyed James Bond films. Would we stay there again? You betcha!

“Comfortable week in this hotel”

Because of a school interchange, I was hosted in this hotel. It is comfortable, well-run and very convenient, as it's very near the main points of interest for us: the Gymnasium Am Wirteltor and the train station. My room (310) was smaller than my partner's (307), but both are cosy and nice. The toilet is big enough as to drop all your toiletries and have a good shower after the trip. Hot water runs almost immediately, and the faucets are very well kept and of good quality. As for the bed, in my case it was a single one, comfortable and with all the lights at hand from the bed itself. The radiator is big, and does its function with efficiency. For the first time in my life I've seen BLINDS in a German window. They are necessary as by 05:30AM the crows start croaking and wake you up. Views from the window are nothing to write home about, but you can see the train station, which is necessary for me. There's a good-sized TV (which I don't turn on, as I don't know a word in German), and the desk has got supplies to prepare a hot drink. The rug is in very good condition, and the wardrobe is big enough as to hold the contents of a 20 kilo suitcase. Only "if" would be 1) the chairs are too soft and not solid enough. They are comfortable, but when you sit, you have the feeling you will need a crane to get up. 2) the lights are too dim in the bedroom. It might be a good idea to add some extra Watts there Definitely, if I were to travel to Düren again, I would choose this hotel

“Comfortable room”

Room very comfortable. Slept soundly. Had to wait an extremely long time for someone to return to reception so I could check in - there was no bell or anything. I was exhausted and just wanted to get to my room! But apart from that it was fine. I would come here again.

“Dated and not attended at night”

This was a stop off hotel on a long journey, however I was disappointed when we arrived as no one on duty. They had a drop box, which is fine with Airbnb but a hotel at this price? This was a stop off hotel on a long journey, however I was disappointed when we arrived as no one on duty. They had a drop box, which is fine with Airbnb but a hotel at this price? Also this was not clear on booking, I received an email to ask about arrival time whilst driving, if I had been a solo traveller, or had no data or WiFi I may have not been aware of how to access. The room was dated, coverlet on the bed! Covid friendly? Room lighting was bad, located next to noisy alley. Parking ,not sure if it was safe as it was located in said alley. Breakfast was good and staff, when there, were good.
