“New hotel along the Mosel River in Germany”

This small hotel (8 rooms, I think) has the most lovely views of the Mosel Valley from the rooms and from the beautiful restaurant below. This small hotel (8 rooms, I think) has the most lovely views of the Mosel Valley from the rooms and from the beautiful restaurant below. The chef is excellent, a surprising gourmet find in this resort on a lake next to a river and a small German village amongst the grapevines of the Mosel Valley. It is just so peaceful here, one of my favorite places anywhere. Attached to the hotel is also an alpine coaster, from which one can see the entire Mosel Valley. It's not just for kids! I didn't stay in the hotel but I saw the rooms, which were just getting ready to open when I was there in 2010.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights in summer. The hotel is at the end of a newly developed area and has its own access road which wasn't on our GPS; However, directions to the hotel are everywhere in the little town nearby and we got there without any problems. We were given a room at the back of the hotel. These rooms immediately face the steep slope at the back of the building and therefore don't afford much of a view. They furthermore look out over the hotel's 'rodelbahn' (alpine coaster) which can be a source of irritation if you like it quiet. The rooms at the front look out directly over the Mosel valley with its vast vineyards. They are also larger, have a sofa, and cost slightly more per night. All rooms have modern, pleasant and tasteful design making for a pleasant environment. As it often goes in German hotels, there is no air conditioning but the windows can be set wide open and (at least at the back) they all come equipped with an insect screen that can be slid down or up. Some rooms come with balconies. If they do then the balconies are extremely spatious. Our room at the back had a balcony but as mentioned before without a view. Still it made for a nice place to listen to the birds and enjoy the fresh air. The bathroom is modern, brand new and squeaky clean. It has all the expected mod cons. The staff and service is maybe the lesser part of the hotel. It comes across as being a bit rattled and it doesn't excell in efficiency but it is friendly and welcoming which goes a long way in making up for it. The hotel has a nice breakfast area that also serves as the restaurant and bar in the evenings. On beautiful days the big terrace affords plenty of space to have meals outside enjoying the sights on the valley (marred slightly by electricity pylones in the distance). As mentioned the hotel has its own alpine coaster (rodelbahn). This can be great if you have kids. It's pretty extensive and comes down over the forested hill behind the hotel. Minus is the noise it generates especially for hotel guests with rooms at the back. The hotel also rents out the rodelbahn to groups. One such group used the rodelbahn until after midnight on one of the nights that we were there. It didn't bother us but if you're sensitive to noise at night then maybe opt for a room at the front. By the side of the hotel is also a small lake that offers watersports and grounds with contraptions for team building. These are a distance from the hotel and do not bother the hotel guests at all. Breakfast was sufficient but certainly not sumptuous. You'll have to content yourself with charcutterie, yoghurt, bread, cereals and croissants. Eggs and saucages are served but not every day during our stay. Summary plus points: - quiet and verdant location - friendly owners/staff - squeaky clean - modern, new, pleasant rooms (and general hotel building) - fun, recreational activities (rodelbahn, water skiing,...) - good base for reconnoitering the Mosel valley and/or neighboring Trier Summary minus points: - some will find the breakfast range limited - possible noise due to rodelbahn for guests staying in rooms at the back - slow and sometimes erratic service in the bar/restaurant - if you expect a direct view of the Mosel keep in mind that this hotel is a distance away from the river (around 500 m).
