The Congress Hotel Chemnitz is like a world of its own. Being there felt like diving into former communist times, in the 1970s. It’s full of invisible stories and memories of former times. There was everyone, from politicians, artist and music people, rich individuals, spies, just anyone you can imagine. If you are interested in such stories, you can read about them, for example: Interhotels DDR. As some other people already mentioned here: it’s simply not possible to renovate this huge structure, as renovation costs would be most probably higher than just doing a new building. Here are some examples: There is no air conditioning system in the rooms, and the windows can only be tilted a few inches, obviously for safety reasons. On a warm day, it feels like a sauna in the room. On a hot day, I cannot imagine sleeping in there. It was okay for beginning of September. The bed was comfortable, and the views from the window were amazing, we were on the 12th floor. We looked right down to the Karl Marx head statue. The windows are quite small though. There’s no water bottles in the room, you can buy overpriced mineral water at the reception. The hallways are with carpets and they smell quite bad, like a mixture of chemical cleaning products and old dirt. One of the four elevators was not working. The bar in the lobby was closed completely, due to lack of staff, as we were told. The breakfast restaurant on the 16th floor is like a time capsule. Furniture and fittings from a long time ago, but great views of the city. A good selection of food, including a pancake machine, which I had not expected. No bacon with the scrambled eggs unfortunately. And on a Sunday morning they had run out of black tea. For a person who doesn’t drink coffee, this is really not nice. The answer of the staff was that they had simply forgotten to buy it, which is completely lame, considering a fully booked house in the middle of the European culture capital year! The staff was a bit of a question mark anyway. Some were really nice and attentive, however, one lady at reception just had no idea how to treat a customer request. Because they have signs in the room saying, if you want a room cleaning, please let the reception know. That’s what we did, nicely, and her reply was, just order the cleaning by using the QR code in the room and use your phone. I said, my phone’s QR code reader sometimes isn’t working properly, please could you kindly request the cleaning service for us? And guess what, she said, no, try your phone first, and sent us away! This is absolutely horrible guest treatment! Someone like this should not be working at a hotel reception! Our summary is, if you do like this kind of time travel thing, and you can accept some minus points, then it’s okay, otherwise find something else.

“Nice hotel”

I was here for the Dark Storm Festival. Very good location to the event location. Nice staff. Nice room. Great view. Breakfast very good. I can recommend the hotel and would go there again. Close to public transportation

This hotel looks like a jewel in Dorint's crown. Nowhere else will you find such a balanced mix of nostalgic rules and contemporary professionalism. The staff and management do everything they can to make sure you enjoy your stay, and a promise made will not be taken back. It is wonderful to have breakfast in the restaurant on the 26th floor with a panoramaview of the city, and with an extensive choice of fresh items in the buffet. Bar, fitness and swimming pool give you the ultimate feeling of relaxation after the effort. With window and roomdoor open, energy-consuming air conditioning is unnecessary. Did you forget something? then it is already arranged before you expect it. The only downside is the lack of extra pillows, blankets and towels in the room, but no doubt the extremely dedicated 24x7 reception will inmediately take care of that on request. And surprise: a week after your stay you will receive a personal message from director Marcel Günther in which he asks if everything went according to plan. He invites you to please come back to his hotel if you need to be in the cultural city of Chemnitz. Chapeaux! ;)

“Fair price”

The room was dated with smelly carpet. Bathroom ok. I didn't pay silly money for breakfast. Aldi and Rewe is around the corner. Considering paying 52 Euro only...if you want something posh and pricey try something else.

“Very reasonable”

Located in the heart of Chemnitz this is a large modern hotel. Impeccably clean the location was superb for the Christmas market. Parking was cheap and literally just out the front door. If your not concerned about quaintness or are looking for a place on a quick stop over they fit the bill.
