It was a nice stay, the location of this hotel is great, and the building is fabulous. But consider that the rooms are small (at least mine was), and the hotel itself is not very spacious. I was there in the summer, so the breakfast room was packed. There was enough space to sit, of course, but it's in the cellar, so the ceiling is low and when the room is full you can't help to feel a little bit uneasy. But it's not a big deal, I mean, it's a nice hotel and my room was cleaned every day so no complaints at all :)

A small hotel set in a small town that, although well off the beaten track (prior to the reunification of Germany, it found itself just inside the East on the road to nowhere), is both attractive and proud of its musical and theatre traditions. On first arriving, enter the hotel through the restaurant on its ground floor. The room key that you will be given doubles as a key to the side door to the hotel proper. The hotel is arranged over the first, second and third floors of the building (in American parlance, the second, third and fourth floors). There being no lift (elevator), be sure to ask for a first floor room if you have mobility problems. If arriving in Meiningen by rail, walk across the Englischer Garten (directly opposite the station), taking the diagonal path leading leftwards. This will bring you to Georgstrasse. Walk down Georgstrasse and across the Markt and into Anton Ulrich Strasse, passing the town church on your left. The hotel is about 150 metres beyond the church.

Small hotel on a square with fountain in the centre of Meiningen. On the gound floor there is a restaurant which is part of the hotel. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. The breakfast room is on a lower level. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special. Our room was very small but reasonably well equipped. The towels were rather old and scratchy. Staff were friendly and helpful. There are a lot of shops in the immediate vicinity and there is a supermarket next door. There is no off-street parking so you have to make sure you don't overstay the limit when parking on the street. The standard of this hotel was a little below what we would have expected for the price.
