Good sized traditionally decorated - 2 bed property with decent lounge but tiny kitchen area. 2 good sized terraces with sunbeds and tables & chairs for Al fresco living and watching the tranquil bay. There are 60 steps to the front door - so not for those with mobility issues. 20 min walk to Hydra town along the coast path (watch out at night, as typical Greek style, not all the lights are working) or 3 mins in a water taxi (euro 17). Decent WiFi. Good reasonably priced taverna in the bay offering typical Greek food. Minor niggles in the property, cheap toilet seats, main bedroom door doesn't shut properly, creaky beds.

Suitable for the fit, as there are 60 steps, and for the active, lucky ones spectacle views await over the beautiful bay. It is a half hour walk to Hydra, or water taxis at 15 euros, which take 5 minutes. We took advantage of the Taverna below us for drinks and evening meals, as this seemed to be open at all times of day and night. The Villa was built in the 1980s, of traditional stone, and set into the hillside. The inside has everything needed for a break, but if cooking for yourself a trip to Hydra is required. There is a double bedroom and another with two single beds. The comfortable lounge is linked with the kitchen, which is a little cramped. The fridge/freezer/cooker are "all of an age", whilst the bathrooms are somewhat dated, but all part of the experience. Loved sitting out on the various balconies, watching the gentle coming and goings of visiting yachts, whilst the warm sea below was ideal for swimming. Came away feeling fit, relaxed and happy, but don't forget the anti-mosquito spray,

Villa Mandraki is special, special in its location being situated almost exclusively in a small bay, with a little pebble beach immediately opposite and good quality taverna for midday 'thalasina' (sea food) and ouzo... However as the title says, this place could be so much more, the owner and operator 'Spiro', although a really nice and helpful guy, does not seem to realise the potential of what he has here. Villa Mandraki is made up of two stone built apartments, I & II, we were staying in the upper apartment presumably number II. This consisted of two bedrooms (a double and a twin), two bathrooms, and a lounge/dining/kitchen area, we also had the choice of TWO terraces and a small balcony....all with great views of the bay. What more could you ask for right, well, at the advertised price (booking) of approx. 170 euro/night, its unfortunate to have to list the below shortfalls (in no particular order, just as was noted at the time: - welcome bottle of wine was off... - this was discovered following a battle to open the bottle with the broken cork screw provided - which in turn highlights the bad condition of all kitchen utensils, seemingly 'leftbehinds' from previous guests, limescale filled kettle, dirty coffee mixer, and general unclean and bad state of kitchen area. - General state of cleanliness of whole apartment, being dusty and dead insects everywhere.... - seriously bad (unusable) internet connection, which upon reporting was 'brushed off' by owner...so if you need internet, this place is a definite no no. - In three nights of our stay, no cleaner attended, no towel change, and considering toilet papers are not to be disposed of in the toilet but in the provided basket, well i need not say more. - bathrooms in general requiring complete overhaul. Old worn furniture (from early 70's), moldy tile grout, old cheap discolored plastic wall cabinet and flimsy toilet seat, terrible shower curtain which inevitably clings to you during showering, drainage grate rusted and broken...ahhhh - finally, full payment requested upon arrival.... Have to say sorry Spiro for mentioning all the above, but all are such easy issues to take care of to have an excellent product worthy of advertised prices, as it is....well you can all make your own decisions.
