Nice small hotel in the centre of Middelburg. Cosy feel as it was just before Christmas. rooms are small with strange layout. Reception and entrance closes early so you have to use the entrance by the side to get in. Breakfast was different to normal hotels with no buffet. You can order bacon and eggs in addition to the bread, cheese, meat and yogurt as standard. OK price for what you get.

We were a party of 4 people staying in 3 rooms for 5 nights. Good points: Location Very comfortable beds Breakfast Good value given the breakfast Friendly, helpful staff Not so sure: Large reserve on credit card on check in, cancelled on check out Presidential Room not worth it, poor design and decor Lighting in rooms too dim Cool bathrooms Church bells overnight Explanation For the most part, I really liked the Roosevelt Hotel.  However, there were some things that could be better.  The bottom line is though, that I would stay there again if I were ever in Middelburg. It is located in a brilliant position.  It's just 150m from the main market square. Middelburg is a really lovely place to visit.  We didn't find parking to be a problem - we could drop off our cases easily enough and then drive to the recommended secure car park.  The walk back only took 7-8 minutes.  The car park cost around €11-12 a day. The beds are very comfortable (although we always bring our own pillows) and the Dutch breakfast is really good. A couple of days before we arrived, the Hotel contacted us to ask us if we minded having a free upgrade from our Grand Deluxe Room 2 to the Presidential Suite for two of our five nights.  As a party we had booked rooms 1,2 & 3 because these are the only rooms on the ground floor (no stairs).  One of our party was over 90 years old.  They said they needed Room 2 for another resident who wanted to stay on and was disabled.  For that reason, we agreed to the upgrade. The Presidential Suite is large with a ceiling that is at least 8m high.  The bathroom is on a mezzanine above the bed although, thankfully, the toilet is at room level.  We found going up and down the stairs to the bathroom a bit of a pain.  The room decor was not to our taste either - perhaps New York loft style from 20 years ago?  The lighting was too dim as well.   When we moved back to the Grand Deluxe Room, we much preferred it.  The bathroom was on the same level and there was still plenty of space.  However, the lighting was, again, too dim.  The bathroom was spacious and well ventilated which meant that you dry quickly after a shower/bath.  That said, this meant it felt a little cool when showering and drying.  We got a little noise coming from through the ceiling from the room above. Rooms 1 and 3 are standard comfort rooms and felt a little cramped - especially room 1 which has a daft layout. All of us occasionally heard the nearby church bells ringing at all hours of the night. On check in, they put a €3,000 reserve on my credit card for the 3 rooms.  I wasn't happy about this - it seemed excessive.  It put quite a dent in my credit limit.  I suppose it worked out at €200 per room per night and for one night at that rate I wouldn't have objected.  At the end of our stay, they cancelled the reserve without any problem.

I would have rated this hotel as good rather than very good but there is no option for this. The hotel is in a fantastic location right in the centrum of Middelburg , a lovely town. As a hotel it works well. However, I tired quickly of all the plastic flowers on the tables and on the walls. Even the plants were artificial. Then you have to choose a time for breakfast, starting at 7.30, then the next sitting at 8.30 etc with the same breakfast served every day, 2 slices of cheese, one slice of ham, 2 small croissants; no choice. Probably better to have a buffet service so you can select what you want. I do not like rooms without a wardrobe; just a few hangers is not luxury. Washbasin/shower in cramped location (room 5) and with the usual thin Dutch towels.Duvets far too narrow. Lighting very poor, cannot read a book when it gets dark. Hotel entrance closes at 9pm. Entrance then is in an alleyway where it is dark and difficult to insert key to obtain entrance. You can have dinner there, but during my stay I only saw one table being in use. As I said a good hotel, nice location but anyone with any flair could make this the place to go to in Zeeland. Sadly, management has not grasped this opportunity.

“O-K but not organised”

Rooms were nice and clean. Food was good and bar staff were friendly however, we were woken up several nights at 2:30 and asked to move rooms when working night shifts on a tight sleep schedule with no apologies from staff and several promises that it “would not happen again” broken .
