“Stay with family”

Lovely stay with the family . Arosha and kamal were amazing at the main dining room. And res for the staff was also great. Really enjoyed our stay.

Right, the gardens are stunning, well manicured and stunningly beautiful. We arrived and we were taken into a waiting / holding area, asked for our passports which were taken away and returned, the process then appeared to slow down, other guests turned up and were processed before us, that was a bit frustrating and rather unprofessional. The hotel is definitely living in the past, relying on its history and glory days. Don’t have an issue, but that the main attraction. The room, yes very dated and I was surprised at the lack of ‘extras’ pillows etc etc. No AC and what dis surprise me was the fact that the fridge was on, but had been turned down, so it was not cold. I travel with medication which need to be kept cool. I had to take the medication to reception who did sort out the storage issue. We were wrongly advised as to what level of ‘service’ we were booking in for, we thought it was half board, they stated it was bead and breakfast only, so we had to dine at the restaurant next door. See other review. The rooms can be noisy from other guests, the floor creeks and this was not good. We were contacted by our driver who had been advised by the hotel about the error regarding our booking and after a lot of discussion the hotel agreed to refund the cost of the meal, this process took far too long. Breakfast , was interesting the dining room is split into two, as is the food production, so you need to discover the ‘hidden’ serving area. Overall, the foor for breakfast was average. The hotel is living on its ‘colonial’ past and the vast number of photographs of previous important and distinguished guests is impressive. Overall, I was impressed by the gardens and the ‘colonial’ look, but there needs to be some improvements. Would I return? The answer is no, simply because I can see no reason to return to Nuwara Eliya, well besides the more acceptable climate to Europeans.

The location is outstanding! With the backdrop of the this Grand Hotel is super. The decor represents the overall era fantastically. You feel like you’re on-set for any 17th-18th century movie! The rooms attempt to follow the vibe, but the bathroom was in need of bit of work: the shower could be a health hazard- very slippery, the shower controls were falling apart. The TV remote was very much in need of repair or destructions! It was a room with a very good bed, which helped the overall experience. The HighTea was magic! A wide variety of sweets and savoury selections. The variety of teas that were served were lovely! As per all accomodation in the current World Economic Environment it is pricey. The staff are fantastic, caring, attentive, and 98% of them always present with big smiles. A high point! There were two exceptional young adults at the property - Yachtsman and Yasit, both excellent hotel employees!

“Got sick”

Wasn’t happy I got diarrhoea from a Caesar salad consumed in the restaurant. Dined with 4 others and no one else sick from their cooked meals. Also charging for face washers ( shouldn’t take away if not going to supply fresh ) and extra water ( they only apply 1 )
