Omni San Diego Hotel At The Ballpark

“Excellent Gaslamp experience.”

Always my go-to when visiting the gaslamp. First time in a corner room. That was awesome, one of the bedrooms I have stayed in. Bummed that McCormick is no longer there, but the staff was able to recommend a good place to eat for dinner.

Really superb massage. Massage therapist were VERY good and hit all the right areas that were causing me issues. One of the best massages I've received over the years! A must when staying at the hotel, as its well worth the time and money!

**The Way It Used to Be** I returned to the Omni San Diego because I remembered it as a much better hotel. In fact, when I logged into my main TripAdvisor account, I noticed I had reviewed this property many years ago, which reminded me why I chose to stay here again. Unfortunately, this recent stay did not match the Omni I remembered. My previous stay was on the 21st floor. The bar was excellent, the food was good, and the hotel felt like a proper upscale downtown property. This time, the overall experience felt noticeably lower. At check-in, there was confusion regarding my American Express Hotel Collection benefits. The front desk employee kept repeating that I did not have those benefits instead of properly checking or escalating the issue. After about ten minutes, I had to insist that a manager be called. Once the manager came out, the issue moved forward, which made the initial handling feel even more unnecessary. The details throughout the stay reflected the same decline. The complimentary bottled water was very low-quality purified water. One day I ordered biscuits and gravy, and it was served in a plastic container with plastic silverware and what seemed like microwave-style potatoes. That is not the level of presentation I associate with Omni. The shower water was also unpleasant. Every time I showered, my skin felt like it had a thin oily layer afterward. I first thought it might have been the hotel body wash, so I used my own soap, but the same feeling remained. Even the concierge recommendation was disappointing. I asked for a breakfast option with meat, no flour, and no dairy. The recommendation felt generic and careless, not like guidance from a premium hotel concierge. At a hotel positioned as an upscale property, the concierge should be able to make a thoughtful recommendation that matches a simple dietary request. I am not attacking anyone personally. I am simply describing my actual guest experience. I came back because I remembered this hotel differently. Given the hotel’s location next to the ballpark, the phrase feels appropriate: they dropped the ball. Omni asked for my opinion, and I am more than willing to give it honestly.
