This place was brilliant, we were so impressed with the space and facilities. Perfect stay for our family of 4 and only a short walk albeit uphill to the gondola. Don't be put off by the owners, they speak barely any English but once we made an effort with them by going in the bar and enjoying a game of pool and air hockey we realised that they were actually lovely people. We even had a meal there with the help of a lady who happened to translate for us. The meal was superb and very cheap one of the best dinners we had in the area. We'll be returning

“No hassle, warm, clean, modern apartments”

Seen some poor reviews for this place and was a bit apprehensive when our last minute booking took us to this place... but I have to say it was far better than expected. Someone on here complained that the owners don't speak much English at all , true , but come on guys 'when in Rome' .... let's just say their English was better than my Spanish! so with a little patience (and google translator! ) we had no problems . The owners are older generation and so perhaps come across as a little cold and less chatty than some (partly the language barrier I guess) however we called in to the bar downstairs on a couple of nights before hitting the town, and they were friendly enough , as were the locals (especially after the Barcelona comeback ) There were 3 of us in room 1a which was more than adequate in size and facilities , masses of piping hit water shower /bath was great. Our room was at the front so decent views from the balcony . Large locker space in the basement , albeit a bit dark and dingy , with no boot heaters etc but I wound save yourself the hassle and see the rep at the top of gondola for a ski locker Sant Roma is 15 minute walk uphill to town every night but at least it's a downhill walk after a few pints :-) All in all a reasonable , basic option at a decent price.

So let's start by being realistic, honest and frank! I paid £175 per person to stay here for 5 nights it was a last minute booking for a short ski break before kids went back to school. That price equates to £35 per person per night. So what I got for my Money was a warm , clean ,functioning room with hot water and a place to lay our heads. For what I paid I got what was expected. The apartments are as I said clean ,warm and dry the bathroom was spotless and the toilet ( which is separate ) was also spotless. On arrival the living area only had one of the sofa beds set up, but it literally took 30seconds to pull the others out. I had paid for a type D apartment . Apartment 1A which is a twin room and 3 sofa beds. I had a 16, 13 and 11 year old traveling with us. The 2 trudle beds were fine but the 3rd sofa bed was a bit dodgy! If I had a lot smaller child they probably could of coped on it but not an 11 year old, the mattress was actually about a 1inc thick and if u sat on it it gave way. Other than that the room was functional and ok for the time you spend in it. That's what I think anyway, we left 8.15am each morning and headed out all day we literally came back early evening showered and hit the sack ready for the next day so for what we paid I think we got a fair room. Not much time spent in room once you skied all day and then hit the apres. These apartments are clearly advertised as being a 10 minute walk to the main town and that is correct we timed it at a leisurely speed with the 3 kids and it took us 12 mins. If your not able to do that walk not sure why your on a ski holiday. It was a lovely walk up in the morning to get you warmed up and awake ready for the days skiing ( but it is all up hill! Bonus after a day skiing though all down hill going home) We did however take advantage of the lockers at the top of the gondola as there was no way we where battling with all that equipment up and down every day, ok that means u don't use the free ski locker at the hotel ( which is in the basement and basically just a concrete box not heated) and You have to pay for a locker at the top but we always do that to save messing about and it means we could get straight of the gondola after a days skiing and hit the bars and not have to worry about carrying equipment etc. The lockers are not stupid price 20 euros for 4 days so well Worth it. This is obviously personal preference but it's defo worth it I would say. Otherwise if u don't want to walk bus stop right outside apartments which is free and runs frequently so no issues either way. So the down sides . NO SAFE: no option to pay for one to store any valuables which to me was a slight issue but we managed. SELF CATERING FACILITIES: none existent ! yes we are happy to eat out in day and of course expected that but would of liked to do breakfast in the apartment before heading out for the day. NO kettle or toaster or oven! Just a hot plate with 2 rings and a microwave. If crystal ski are endorsing this accommodation and advertising as self Catering they should insist on at least a kettle and a toaster to the owners in each apartment. To be fair I had read an old review and seen no kettle so I did pack a tiny travel kettle so that was a god send , otherwise u could make a brew by boiling water in a pan, so all is not lost just a faf! but not being able to do toast for the kids breakfast was a real pain. OWNERS: total lack of customer care ! No English what so ever basically they know how to say passport and 70 euro deposit! When u arrive. Other than that nothing, no info on how to retrieve you 70 euros ! because of this trying to sort out any kind of issue you may have would be totally impossible. They give you a real feeling of just not being bothered in the slightest about anything. The bloke was sat with his feet up watching telly or playing cards never even made eye contact or spoke. I asked the crystal Ski rep to sort out our issue about the dodgy bed and mattress and she got us another mattress sorted within 2 hrs ( by using goggle translate I believe) so the bed then was ok to sleep on. I wouldn't of even attempted to try and speak to the owners. In fact the lady gave me a really uneasy feel so I avoided her at all costs. We literally came and went through the side door ( keypad operated so easy) and didn't see them again the whole stay until check out. This was fine with us we didn't need anything once the bed was sorted and as I said we were never in. We stayed 5 nights had no fresh towels or bed change and no extra toilet rolls so had to buy. You also have to take your own rubbish out to the bins. Check out was 545 am due to the transfer , we had to be down stairs 1/2 hr before to meet the owners who then check the room and decide if you get back your 70euros and passports ! Would I stay again , for the money I paid YES if I had to pay more ( I have seen this accommodation advertised over £240 per person ! It's not worth that) then no, as I said it was last minute booking ( booked 10days before ) and in reality cheap accommodation at £35 per head per night and for that price we got a fair level Of accommodation. Now I know what to expect it wouldn't put me of staying again especially for the amount of time we actually spent in the room. If I wanted better I would of paid more like we have in the past to stay further up the village . The bad points to me didn't impact on our holiday they were just gripes that were easily overcome and the reality is they were not life or death if I had forked out a lot more money on the accommodation I wouldn't of been happy though. We had a warm dry place to lay our head each night and that was fine. If you want a really nice room in the centre of the resort do not book these . If you want a cheap room that's functional to lay your head and to keep costs down then go for it. Hope this is helpful !
