I was a bit skeptical about this hotel due to mixed reviews, however I could not have been more pleased. Location was a "shortish" trek from the train station and quick walk over bridge to old town. I only stayed one night and therefore did not get a chance to fully explore the area however shops and restaurants were close-by. The room was clean and spacious and the breakfast was very good. The pub next to hotel was a lot fun after a long day of exploring. Highly recommend and would stay again.

“Wonderfully placed hotel run by warm, welcoming and highly professional family.”

I chose this hotel because of its location in Old Town Salzburg, but it turned out to be a great choice. The room was very comfortable and quiet, despite it being Oktoberfest while we were there. The staff were great, and we even met the owners who are hands-on and terrific. They have used technology throughout the inn, and it has a more modern feel (despite being built in the 1300s), was clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was terrific, too. Definitely recommend.

I actually stayed here some years ago, before any refurbishment, I worked for a well known Austrian company and I guess they chose here due to it being so old and traditional, rather than the usual big hotels. I absolutely loved it, I love all things Europe, and staying in this ancient little place was right up my street. Thing is, you have to accept that if you stay in such a building, there will be stairs all over the place, it’s part of the charm, also as I remember the lift was very small, two or 3 people at a push. That’s maybe changed now but for me I didn’t care, I was in a very old hotel, which had seen hundreds of years of people, events , the good, the bad, whatever, it’s old, it’s history it’s great. But it’s not for everybody, if you have mobility issues etc, best to stay in a hotel where you can properly be accommodated , that’s how it is sometimes. . It’s a stroll down to the river and bridge over which is the centre of beautiful Salzburg where I wondered round and lost myself in the beauty of the place. The hotel I’d say is pricey, given you can stay even more central, in more luxury for similar money, and when I finally get back next year, I’m torn between the old world and the new, family brings more practicalities than being part of a company. So if your very picky, need all the usual hotel stuff, don’t stay here, but if you value the old world as I do, here is a great place to stay. My youngest daughter has Down Syndrome, but would be fine here , so maybe we will stay over the bridge but I will bring them to this hotel for a meal, and sneak a drink at the bar where we had such a laugh those years ago, some moaned about the breakfast etc, but just leave your British corn flakes mentality at home and embrace why you are here, I’m sure the breakfast is fine, but again if that matters stay in a standard hotel and have your full English, anyway, fab hotel, in an amazing place.
