Pleased to report our recent family stay at Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort, was absolutely fantastic! Despite, some recent reviews pertaining the renovations and disturbances, nothing could be further from the truth, we heard nothing of the new fit out to block 3, indeed with a strictly ‘Lake Wakatipu’ outlook from block 2 you wouldn’t even know there was construction, albeit an internal fit out, less than 50 meters back up the hill. The resort’s location is stunning, this is not an understatement, you’ve a 180o Panorama of the Remarkable where even a chimpanzee with a polaroid could take aa great shot of this Eden-esque visa. Situated right on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, it offers breath taking views of the water and the Remarkables mountain range. Yes, watching the sunrise or sunset from the balcony every day, which we did, felt like a postcard moment. The bike track out the front, was easily accessible, as was the water, only there is a family of resident ducks that like to introduce themselves and take the limelight on the lawn in front. The accommodation itself was modern, clean, and very comfortable. The rooms were well-equipped with everything needed for a relaxing stay, including a full kitchen and laundry facilities, which were great for a longer visit. The beds were 10/10 comfortable, and the heating kept the rooms warm even on chilly Queenstown nights. Mind that fresh southern alps air was truly addictive, and Id often leave the balcony door ajar for some of the worlds freshest O2 The staff were friendly, helpful, and quick to assist with any requests. The check-in process was smooth, (thank you Victoria) and they were happy to provide local recommendations for dining and activities. Regarding some constructive feedback, the on-site restaurant and bar had a lovely atmosphere, with good food and great views, however the restaurant is only open for breakfast during the renovations. Whilst we made use of the supermarket up in Frankton and self catered, the one morning we did have the breakfast, chef mucked up our order, plating the two groups that came after us. Whilst the food was good, for the price paid per head, I shouldn’t have to point out their kitchen management protocols. That said, I'm still giving Oaks Shores 5 stars as new management has obviously addressed most problems identified in earlier reviews. Besides, we got to enjoy the restaurant views for longer. Overall 5 start review, everything, and I mean everything in Queenstown costs money (arguably double if they know you’re a tourist), but at Oaks, you don’t need to pay for the jet boats, or helicopters, or expensive dinners out, you simply self cater, choose Uber or your legs to get anywhere, and enjoy the view.
