I enjoyed my time at Kakatar Residence. The service was great. I had a huge room with a kitchen, hot shower, and a balcony view of the ocean. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The residence is a few feet from the beach, restaurants and stores. It is in a great location in Dakar. I felt safe and secure and a solo traveler on this trip.

“Quiet place in the middle of Greater Dakar madness”

Tall building in the middle of Yoff. Very quiet. Great ocean views from our room (4th floor) and from the rooftop terrace. No restaurant, but staff can provide food delivery. Tall building in the middle of Yoff. Very quiet. Great ocean views from our room (4th floor) and from the rooftop terrace. No restaurant, but staff can provide food delivery. Walking distance to the beach or a main road and shops. We've came by car and it was easy to get from there to Dakar's center or to escape from Dakar. Room was ok, not too clean, but not too dirty either. Maybe a little bit pricey. Kitchen facilities, including refridgerator. Don't count on breakfast, we needed it for 8.30 am, undelivered until 10 am. Better take a room without breakfast and eat somewhere in the area (good boulangerie and patisserie at the end of the street, Al Mahdi, close to Auchan).

“Good place”

Residence Kakatar is a good place to stay. We stayed for a few nights in January 2018, and the double room was spacious and mostly clean. Residence Kakatar is a good place to stay. We stayed for a few nights in January 2018, and the double room was spacious and mostly clean. Some of the staff speak good English, and we found them all friendly. Yoff is an interesting area to stay in, you see more of the local Dakar life than in the center of the city. The area near Kakatar is also OK, we felt safe. It takes ages travelling from Yoff to center on buses, but we used them anyway, it was a good way of seeing how locals live.

“Our home away from home”

When the taxi stopped in the city center to call the hotel and the manager met us and had to take us in personally I instantly had a bad feeling and was regretting my decision to stay here. But once we checked in (they upgraded us to a mini apartment which was way more space than we needed), turned-on the AC, we began to settle in. With in a few short days we had become very familiar with our immediate surroundings and with all the local shop keepers and we could easily find our way to and from the nearby markets, beaches etc. The people in this surrounding area were wonderful greeting us nods, waves, or smiles each day. The hotel was clean and decorated with African artwork on the walls. The temperature in Dakar was 90 degrees every day with 90% humidity. So it is HOT! There was only one AC in one bed room which did cool off that room nicely if you keep the door closed. On occasion the power did go off..but only for short periods of time. There seemed to be periods of torrential rain once a day. Mostly at night...but on a few days....it came during the day. When it comes...you need to take cover as it is no joke. With sand streets...the streets will literally wash out from underneath you. The roof top terrace was my favorite place. If gives you a beautiful view of the local area, the ocean, and the culture. At any given time you will see the children at play, women hanging laundry, men praying on rooftops or pushing the rainwaters off the roofs. From the terrace you will hear the many temples in the area and their call to prayer which over time begin to just sound like faint music in the background. Morning, noon or night this rooftop terrace is not only a 'must see' but a 'must experience'.

“Damp and stuffy room”

We paid 40.000CFA in a apartment with 2 double beds. Very damp and stuffy rooms. The apartment had no windows in the bedrooms and it smelled like no door or window had been opened up there for months! We paid 40.000CFA in a apartment with 2 double beds. Very damp and stuffy rooms. The apartment had no windows in the bedrooms and it smelled like no door or window had been opened up there for months! The rooms were clean enough if you dont count in the kitchen where you could find a clean plate. On the bright side, theres a wonderful roof terrace with a great view of Youff. And the staff was so helpful and nice!
