We stayed here the night before the Great Birmingham Run. It was my first race and I normally don’t sleep well in hotels so was a bit apprehensive but we had such a good stay. The room was modern and clean, the beds were really comfortable and the staff were lovely, even giving out water bottles the morning of the race. We slept so well and felt refreshed ready for the run! The bar downstairs was a little tired in places but the staff were friendly and it was great for a drink. We would absolutely stay here again.

I would have rated a 3 but the staff are welcoming and professional and it wouldn't be fair to do that. We stayed at this hotel a few years ago, had a big, well maintained room and slept the sort of high quality sleep you still remember years later. Came back for the perfect location, expecting the same experience. Our room was TIRED. The plug in the sink had broken and bent replaced with a 50p cheap one. The back of the bathroom door was watermarked, the plug sockets didn't match. It was all very underwhelming. The gym was very good for a hotel gym. Didn't see the spa. The paid car park is convenient. The bar is fantastic, again, thanks to the staff. Would I stay again? Probably not. It felt more Travelodge than Malmaison.

Nice hotel. Reception small but warm. Receptionist Kenda was very friendly, hospitable and has very good communication skills. An asset to this hotel. Carpeted room. Neutral decor. Adequate wardrobe. Comfy beds, clean linen. Clean bathroom. Some areas such as bathroom wooden panels and skirting starting to age and need some updating. Nonetheless it is clean and has strong power shower. Toiletries provided. Towels clean and soft. The lighting in the room is on the dim side. Good for resting and sleeping. However, we wanted to do work and it was a bit of a challenge to the eyes despite a really nice work desk in the room. We explored the hotel and came to the mezzanine called “Work and Play” to check if we can work on the floor. We were greeted by an abrupt, unfriendly lady who asked us why we were there. We did not feel welcome at all and felt we were being told off. This lady should learn how to say things in a calm and clear manner. We are professionals who use hotels worldwide and usually bring our work with us - it’s the first we were given such kind of attention from hotel staff. It is unfair to be told off like this even when we were on the wrong floor. This is the reason why we are giving it a 3! The area felt secure and close to the establishments in the Mailbox. Walking distance to the train station and the town. Gym on the small side. We did not use the sauna and spa. Good for relaxing but don’t bring your laptop with you.
