We visited the hotel Smari as it was the hotel included in our Iceland package. On arrival it didn’t look much, however when you get to see other hotels/buildings they are all built pretty much the same (for efficiency) so don’t let that put you off. On arrival the check in was easy and the guy on reception was efficient if a little abrupt. Our room was on top floor and towards the back of the hotel (306) which over looked the motorway but was not at all busy or noisy and away in the distance were the views of the snow covered mountains 😁 The room itself had a lovely big comfy double bed, a table with a couple of chairs, plenty of storage, plus a big wall mounted tv with some channels in English.There were also tea and coffee making facilities including a small kettle and two tiny cups, however there was no milk or anywhere cool to store milk if you bought some, as no mini fridge and obviously the rooms need to be well insulated/heated. The bathroom had ample space with two soap dispensers (sink and shower area) hand, bath and floor towels, but we did find the shower curtain a little annoying, as it always managed to stick to some part of you while trying to shower! The breakfast which is down stairs by reception was in a bright and airy but small room and did get pretty busy but had plenty of choices. Delicious porridge, small fancy pastries, amazing home cooked bread and scrambled eggs, meats, cheese the more unusual.... herring (which is again delicious) as well as a verity of teas, filter coffee and orange juice. The staff were always replenishing stock so no need to worry if you were not eating when breakfast starts. The hotel is, as I said outside the city but is very close to Smaralind which is a large shopping mall. This has a pretty big supermarket which offers plenty of the usual stock you may need and is so much cheaper if you want to buy snacks rather than eating in a cafe or resturant every meal time. There still are a few places/resturant’s you can eat and many shops if shopping is your thing!! The fact that all but one of excursions were hotel pick up meant that the hotel being out of the city was no problem. When we did need to get into the Reykjavic itself, there is a very efficient bus service on the other side of the shopping centre which is less then 10 minutes walk away with sensible prices (you will need to down load the app to make is more cost effective). The Hotel Smari is a nice little efficient, out of city hotel with good staff, nice rooms, better still if milk could be supplied so you could enjoy a hot drink offering a delicious breakfast.

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel and we really appreciated 1 thing: the room was very spacious. Basically, that's all. We were lucky not to have anyone near us, but you can hear everything happening in the corridor. The hotel is located near the highway, so quite loud. The shower was really small though. And the breakfast was really poor. So for that price, I would say it was not worth it. But you can see the sunset from some rooms. And there was a free parking, but no safe in the room. And there was only some thin curtains on the 3 huge windows we had, so it let the light almost totally come in the room, so our first nights in Iceland were almost sleepless.

As a grade of hotel said 3 stars, it is correct. Everything is an average apart from people, they are really nice. Main problem is main road so if you have chance ask for room away from that road.
